These are some of our favorite backcountry destinations we experienced while touring Monongahela National Forest, in northern West Virginia, also featuring this week’s campsite.

Primitive Campsite
This stretch of forest road features only one notable dispersed campsite, and it’s accessible by any four-wheel drive truck, van, or SUV, but the road is rocky and pitted with mud-holes, so decent ground clearance is a must!
Our 2021 Winnebago Revel has a very modest aftermarket suspension on it, with oversized tires, and we were just barely able to squeak it through to the campsite.
Allegheny Trail Campsite
@venture4wd
An old favorite primitive campsite along a secluded forest road in Monongahela National Forest. Located at a junction for the Allegheny Trail (yellow blazes) and nestled in pines and rhododendrons, with hiking and stunning waterfalls nearby. There is a well-maintained stone fire ring here. Remote with minimal traffic, and very shady, dense vegetation. Most popular on weekends with occasional hikers, sightseers, 4x4s, and even horseback. Enough space for two or three overland vehicles and/or ground tents. Very poor cell service. Strongly recommended.
