10 Gluten free friendly places for Lunch & Dinner in Gothenburg

Kristina Savic
Let us explore gluten free Gothenburg! I am living here since a year now as a celiac and will link the restaurants where I had good gluten-free experiences with so far. This map contains places for lunch and dinner. If you are looking for something sweet, please check out my "Gluten Free Fika in Gothenburg" map! The guide includes a mix between "real" restaurants and fast food restaurants. It is focused on more affordable locations and leaves out luxurious and expensive places. Usually, in Sweden you can ask for a gluten-free alternative and it is common that they have gluten-free burger buns or pizza dough to offer. Still, it is always necessary to explain everything has to be gluten-free even regarding contamination. I am thankful for the general offer of alternatives, yet I prefer to visit places where I can eat more than the obligatory gluten-free burger bun ;-). Therefore, I recommend only the locations where I was satisfied with the gluten-free possibilities! Furthermore, I will not link restaurants in the charming old town district of Haga. There are several restaurants, but I personally found them very touristy and therefore prefer to walk through it but then visit other places to eat. And now enjoy :-)

Restaurants

Saray grill & kök
@The_Independent_Celiac
Saray grill & kök is a restaurant with Turkish cuisine. The restaurant is located within a small shopping centre in the industrial area in Gothenburg. Every gluten-free meal on the card is declared and you can choose between different delicious traditional meals. Personally, I stick to the vegetarian plate "vegetarisk tallrik" every time. They have another restaurant at the other side of Gothenburg.

Masala Kitchen & Bar Mölndal
@The_Independent_Celiac
Masala Kitchen is a modern restaurant with Indian cuisine. I have been there several times and will come back every time I want to eat Indian food. The card shows clear what you can eat as a celiac and the best is the gluten-free naan bread! They even offer gluten-free beer. I like that the menu has a own page for vegetarian dishes and there are a lot options which are both vegetarian and gluten-free. They have another restaurant more central in Gothenburg, but I have only been here so far.

Olivia Avenyn
@The_Independent_Celiac
Olivia is a restaurant with Italian cuisine and offers the typical Pizza, Pasta (both also gluten-free!) and Salad. It is located in the beautiful Kungsportsavenyen. Mostly I like about it that it is affordable for a restaurant with service, as a lot of cafés/restaurants here do not come to your table. I think that it has a nice flair if you choose to dine in a restaurant to have someone serving you and not you with a block in your hand that rings when you can get your food ;-) . I tried the gluten-free pizza and found it delicious. They mark the vegetarian alternatives as well as everything that can be made vegan or lactose-free. Also, they offer a lunch menu.

Puta Madre
@The_Independent_Celiac
Puta Madre is a restaurant in Gothenburg city with Mexican-inspired food. I have not been there so far, but want not to leave out on my Gothenburg map as they claim on the menu that every meal (except dessert) is gluten-free! Furthermore, there are several vegan options. It appears to be in the little higher price segment with average 25 Euros for one main course.

@The_Independent_Celiac
Condeco has central location in Kungsgatan. It is not only a nice café, but has good lunch options as well. They offer different gluten-free sweets. You can choose between gluten-free salads, bowls and even sandwiches which I found delicious. They offer also an affordable lunch menu which I recommend to check out. The interior is very cozy and it also has an upper floor. Condeco has various cafés in Göteborg.

Happy Me Vasagatan
@The_Independent_Celiac
Happy Me is on my go-to list! It offers healthy meals like toasts, salads and more and almost everything is gluten-free and labelled on the menu. The bread and pizza is made of buckwheat so I would recommend to ask if it is gluten-free certified buckwheat used. Everything sounds delicious and I am looking forward to try it!

BodyBuddy Café & Bakery Masthuggskajen
@The_Independent_Celiac
BodyBuddy is a minimalistic café with cool, healthy gluten-free brunch and lunch options! I have to try it out myself yet, but the online menu makes it easy to understand what is suitable for gluten-free, dairy free and vegan people. They offer gluten-free oats for breakfast, and salads and hot bowls for lunch. There is also a separate Saturday brunch menu with waffles and more.

Fast Food

MAX
@The_Independent_Celiac
MAX is a big fast-food chain all over Sweden which offers burgers, salads, fries and the usual things. What I like about it is that is not only offers gluten-free burger buns, but also meat alternatives that are both gluten-free and vegetarian / vegan! You can check online, in the restaurants in the allergen information flyer or the digital bord where you order, the allergens of every product to be sure. My favourite is the Halloumi-Burger with gluten-free burger buns! NOTE: The pictures of Thatch on this location are not the right ones, as it is right in the city center :)
