Fall in love with Tokyo in 4 days

Fall in love with Tokyo in 4 days

Nikita Chaudhari
Tokyo is a playground for adults and one of the most wonderful places I have ever been, largely because of the kind people. This is a packed four-day guide of my favourite things to do in Tokyo. You can definitely spread this out over 5 days. Let me know if you have any other questions! We also did a couple of day trips I will post about later.

Things to do

Day 1

If you've just arrived and what to start of with something relaxing, head to Zojoji Temple and Tokyo Tower as they are near each other.

Zojoji Temple

If you visit over the New Year break like we did - make sure to go here on the 31st of December or 1st of January. Lots of delicious food stalls and a fabulous way to bring in the new year along with many other lovely locals.

Enjoy a delicious lunch - for places to eat have a look at our favourites below - before heading to Roppongi. Enjoy exploring this beautiful area before heading to the Mori Art Museum. The Museum is within Mori Tower, which has viewing facilities, which provide a stunning view of Tokyo.

Depending on how tired you are, you could head to Shinjuku for the evening and explore the Yokocho (alleyway) and enjoy a delicious meal and beer there.

Day 2

Some of my favourite parts of Tokyo are the Asakusa and Ueno area. Just have fun getting lost here and exploring this magical part of the city. Senso-ji Temple is an absolute must, including the lined streets leading up to the temple.

Next (hopefully after a delicious lunch) head to Shibuya and get a quintessential experience at the crossing. For an even more spectacular view of Tokyo, head to Shibuya Sky. One of my highlights was visiting Meiji Shrine. The crossing and Shibuya Sky are within a 5 minute walk of each other Meiji Jingu is about a 20 minute metro ride.

After a little break and maybe even a cheeky 7-11, Family Mart or Lawsons snack, head to Harajuku for the evening. Takeshita Street is a must-do even if it feels "touristy". There are so many fun little shops to visit. If you are into vintage shopping and sweet treats, this is the place for you.

Day 3

If you're into shopping and big city vibes then this morning is perfect for you as we recommend heading to Omotesando and Ginza. Another fun place to shop is Miyashita Park. However the best shopping is within the local department stores - head into any of these to find stunning, chic Japanese fashion.

Day 4

Visit a Disney Park. We went to Tokyo DisneySea and had the most incredible day. This took up the majority of the day and I would recommend not planning much else.

Top Tips:

1. Research food options so you can plan ahead of time - lines for snacks are long and it's better to make a reservation

2. Our favourite rides were the Hollywood Tower of Terror and Indiana Jones

Where to stay

We have been to Tokyo twice and stayed at the hotels listed below. They were all perfect for us (two travellers between the ages of 25-35) and we would happily stay at them again. They are reasonably priced and in great locations depending on the area you want to stay in.

Staying here means you will get to explore the area of Akihabara very easily (an added bonus).
