Map of Sintra: what to visit

Map of Sintra: what to visit

Sintra is a town in Portugal, pretty close to Lisbon. This is a special place, being a UNESCO World Heritage Site; it once used to be a summer retreat for the Portuguese nobility and royalty. You will be mesmerized by the multiple palaces and castles, that are unique and fascinating and you will find yourself feeling like being part of a fairytale.

Sintra National Palace
@iAMtravelling
✏️Situated in the center of Sintra, this is the oldest royal palace in Portugal and the place where every queen and king of Portugal spent some time. It is comprised of the palace itself and a garden and is easily recognized by the two white conical chimneys.

My recommendations

My personal choice would be to make sure to visit Palácio Nacional da Pena and Quinta da Regaleair, as these are the most stunning castles.

If you want to do the castles tour all by yourself, this is doable by bus and I suggest you check out my guide:

If you want an organized tour with a guide and private transportation from Lisbon, I suggest checking out these Viator tours and choose the one that fits you the best:
