You can make this trip longer for slow travelers ( what I really recommend because this remarkable place has so much to offer so better enjoy while you are there ). You can still do it my way like described BUT be prepared for some late nights and early mornings.

Lets talk about MONEY: you will pay in AUSTRALIAN DOLLARS (AUD) BE CAREFUL! make sure your tripadvisor or viator is shown in Australian dollar as there is a significant difference between both. 1 US Dollar is around 1,57 AUD, keep that in mind and dubble check.

LANGUAGE: English but with some really strange words to be fair

Hooman ( no worries I know the correct spelling is HUMAN ) : Australians are known as Aussies. The first people who set foot on land where the Aboriginals. There are some problems with respect to aboriginals ( no worries they are not going to eat you ) but that's nothing to discuss in here. I've had no problems with any of this ethnical group nor do I know someone who did but if you hear the "local" Aussies ( or third generation backpacker who decided to stay ) you will notice some problems. I am curious to your point of view after your visit! feel free to share that story with me. š

VISA: you will need a passport that is valid for at least 6 months ( like usual ) and then it all depends from which country you are !
. EVISITOR 651 is a FREE Visa. You can stay up to 3 months at a time and is valid for one year.
. Electronic Travel Authority or ETA costs you 20 $. You can Stay up to 3 months at a time and is valid for a year. ALERT ! This is only valid for people from following 8 countries: Brunei, Canada, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, The United States and The Republic of South Korea.
. TOURIST STREAM visa: Possibility to stay up to 12 months without leaving the country. WARNING: you can only APPLY if you are already in Australia. Ideal for people who want to extend their visa and are prepared to pay the 475$ fee.
. WHV or working Holiday Visa 417: This visa allows people 18 to 30 years old (or 35 years old for some countries) have their first extended holiday in Australia and work here to help fund their trip. It will cost you 635$ ( that you earn back easy if you are not lazy ) and you are allowed to stay for 12 months ! WIN WIN If you haven't sold half of your liver to get that visa.
There you go, now you know. Is this all ? NO there are many options. The most important is that you apply for one and have a VALID passport. Make sure you check the official Website. Yes if you search for it you will find a lot of websites claiming to be the OFFICIAL but they will charge you your full liver and that's NOT worth it. So I will link the correct website. Buy me a cup of coffee and call it even.
TIP: If you are unsure because there are A LOT of possibilities just check out one of the FACEBOOK groups like backpackers Australia and ask the Question or search the group. We went all through that stage nothing wrong with that. People will help you ( Most of them. Transportation: In my opinion it's the best way in a campervan. yep the tiny house on wheels or a car. take note that accommodations in Australia can be expensive. You have the possibility to rent one or you can buy one. They both have some benefits but also some disadvantages.
Do you have the time to buy one and more important to sell one ? what is your budget? How long do you stay ? This are some of the questions to be answered. You can do the East coast by the greyhound bus but this is not possible on the West coast and you don't have the freedom to see everything. So what is it that you want ?

National Dish: Well euhmmm this is a difficult one. You will find fish and chips everywhere but to be fair as a former chef I'll tell you that it is not the best unless you have the English Nationality. Another thing they claim is Pavlova ( A merengue Dessert ) named after the Russian Ballet dancer who traveled through the country in 1926. Well I can't confirm this as the people of New Zealand claim its theirs so yeah honestly the Australian cuisine is not the best if you ask my opinion unless you like pies . ( but I am critical ) lucky for us you can find an international cuisine in most metropoles. Make sure you don't follow European standards because they eat quite early. An Australian wakes up with the sound of the birds and sleeps at dawn. ( Most of them ) Conclusion: Go to one of the supermarkets and buy some Tim Tam cookies. Real Australian and actually really nice !

If you arrive at the airport make sure you download following apps to ease your stay.
1. UBER! why ? easy ! Taxis at the airport are expensive and they dare to scam you. With UBER you solve that problem as you know how much to pay in advance. You can UBER in more countries than AUSTRALIA so it's a useful app. DIDO is the cheaper version in AUSTRALIA ( from time to time ) but its not possible to download that app unless you are Australian or maybe some other nationalities but you can work around this by using your VPN. Just put him on AUSTRALIA and make an account. ( Don't tell anybody I told you.Ā š )
2. A bit more expensive is an E-SIM but for me it's useful. why ? I hear you thinking ? Allow me to explain. Sometimes airport wifi is not stabile and if you have a data package you are mobile. You can already order an UBER ( what is not possible if you are not connected to WIFI outside the terminalĀ ) You can check-in in your hotel or do your research. You can let your family know that you arrived safe and win some time because we all know that we have to wait at customs. Buy a normal SIM card if you are planning to stay a long time in Australia because this is the cheaper option but it takes some time to install. That's for sure. TELSTRA has the best coverage in Australia. The E-SIM is covered by OPTUS. I had both sims and still they didn't cover half the country.Ā So are you ready to go off the grid ??Ā
If you decide to go straight on your roadtrip you have to make sure that you check your flight hours and if the company is still in the possibility to handover your vehicle. Check the companies that are located at the airport. It saves you a taxi and it's easy after a flight. This is going to be a bit more difficult for campervans but you can easy UBER to the company. I wouldn't recommend this if you have a late flight because doing some paperwork and groceries costs you a lot of time and in most campsites in Australia you have to check-in before 18h. You can check in later but then there is nobody at the reception and I think it's easier to relax the first day. Make sure you check the rental company and if they allow to drive after dark because most wont like it or even allow it. From dusk till dawn the wildlife comes to life in Australia and you wouldn't want to have a kangaroo under your vehicle on the first day (or any other day. ) You can drive at night if you have to, but make sure that you adapt your speed.
I recommend Travellers Autobarn. I rented a van from them and they gave me an EXCELLENT service. You can go for cheaper companies but read the reviews. At some point our alternator broke down in the middle of Karijini NP and they helped us out immediate. Giving us an extra week for free and arranged everything for us. They have good maintained vehicles ( nobody can predict when an alternator breaks down ) and a GREAT Service. You can go off the grid with their vans for 3 days before putting them on power. PERFECT to save some money and go to FREE campsites.
I will always check out discover cars for car rentals. It's a platform that search between all of the car rental companies so you can easy compare. They also have an extra insurance that is cheaper ( most of the time ) only downside is that this is a third party and the companies will hold a bond on your creditcard for in case something happens. No worries ! If something happens and you have the extra insurance they cover you but the company will charge you first. If you take the insurance straight from the company you can reduce the bond.
Embrace the best of both worlds in Perth, where soft-sand beaches and scenic parks meet a thriving metropolis of small bars, creative restaurants and curated street art.
1. Go to Fraser Avenue lookout to stroll around the green lanes for a picnic or enjoy the nightlights and see the city comes to life.

2. Take a day trip to Rottenest island to take a selfie with the cute furry Quokka's.

3 Visit the most instagrammable blue boat house (yes you have the picture and no it's not that spectacular as you have to wait for half an hour to cross the busy street).

4. Go to Fremantle ( Freo for the friends ) to visit the markets in the weekend.

5. Take a cruise on the Swan river to see the beauty of the metropole from the other side.
NOTE: If you are bored go to Northbridge where most people go out ! Become the new Tiger woods or Harry Putter playing "glow in the dark mini-golf while sipping a cocktail" in holey moley ! WARNING: This activity includes a lot of drunk people and is expensive but fun.

For people who want to stay in Perth I have some ho(s)tel recommendations. š
I liked this place! If you research some hostels on booking/ hostelworld and you read the reviews you will see that none of them are good. This hostel has a central location, close to Northbridge ( where the magic happens ) and is clean. what do you want more ?
Don't book here if you are planning to cook a 5 course meal, because the kitchen isn't well equipped but you will find some cosy restaurants on walking distance and if you are too lazy to cook, they allow you to book uber eats. PERFECT!
Sidenote: It's not the most sociable hostel as the common area is huge.
If you don't like the big cities this is the place to go. Fremantle or FREO for the friends is a cosy neighborhood just outside the city center of PERTH.
This hostel is part of the YHA group and has a nice price for what you get. Like i've said: Australia is not the best to find cheap and clean hostels but this hostel is actually nice and on a unique location. You could guess this already, it's in the old prison. It has a big kitchen to socialize with your new friends, close to the markets and not far from the beach. Only benefits if you ask me.

Day 3; From Perth to CERVANTESĀ
From PERTH to CERVANTES is a 198 kilometer drive that will take you around 2 hours. We drove 583 km but we came straight from HYDEN via PERTH because we picked up a third person on the way (Yes, I do everything to save some money from time to time).
Ā Use this day to do all your groceries shopping for the week if you go by campervan. Make a list and cook those meals. Not only will this save you time but also money. Make sure to install WikiCamps. This app will help you to look for campsites.Ā
If you go by car or did your groceries already a day before you are good to go.
Make a stop in the YANCHEP NATIONAL PARK to admire some wildlife, Go sandboarding in LANCELIN or drive straight to NAMBUNG NATIONAL PARK to admire an insane sunset. Don't leave immediate but wait till dark. This is an incredible place to behold a sky full of stars. The nearest place you can stay is in CERVANTES as there is only one campsite in the park itself. This is NAMBUNG STATION STAY. Call the owner first to ask for the road conditions. I would have loved staying there because everybody i've met recommended me this place but the owners Brian and Gloria were so honest to warn me for the road conditions and give me the advice to come back another time. This place is a working cattle station and offers as only one a tour of the painted desert to admire the Pinnacles in a different way.Ā The outcamp offers a choice between self contained accommodation or spacious caravan park places that are situated next to a shearing shed. What more do you need ? We stayed in an RAC in CERVANTES town. Those who read my other itineraries will already know that I am a big fan of the RAC. This is actually the closest you get to the pinnacles so perfect if you plan a small night drive. Like i mentioned already. Roos are crazy after dark.
TIP: Visit the VISITORS CENTERS in every city you stop. They are really useful down under. Not only for the road conditions but also for other useful information about hikes, campsites etc. You will find most information on their websites but for me they came in quite handy.
No worries it's only a 200 kilometer drive from PERTH if you drive via the state route. Lucky for you this area has a lot to offer.
1. NAMBUNG NATIONAL PARK is home to the PINNACLES. These limestone formations are definitely worth a visit at sunset. After sunset this place transforms in star gazers heaven so make sure not to leave early.

2. Make sure to stop In Yanchep National Park if you come from Perth. It's only a 50' drive. Have a picnic and spot the western grey kangaroos and birds, or stroll through the koala boardwalk and learn about this native Aussie icon. how many koalas will you see?

3. Visit lake Thetis in Cervantes. The lake is one of only a few places in the world with living marine stromatolites.

4. Visit the Sea Lion colony of Essex Rocks, just a 20 minute boat ride away from Jurien Bay, or travel a bit further to Fishermans Islands to swim with these beautiful, friendly creatures.

5. One hour from Cervantes you find Lancelin. The ideal place to spot dolphins, score delicious crayfish, go on a sand dunes tour or zoom downhill on a sandboard. Well worth stopping if you come from Perth if you ask me.

Well, those who have read my other itineraries know that this is a chain I like. It is perfect for your first night because. they have a large clean kitchen to cook for all of your campervan meals for the first week so your little home doesn't smells like meatballs like ours did. Cervantes is also the closest town where you can stay if you come from the PINNACLES. It's only a 15' drive and for sure that is a benefit if you are a stargazer. Like I mentioned already it is not recommendable to drive at night but this is your best option if you have to.
RAC has some fancy "villa's" for people who drive with a car and look for accommodation but it has also some nice campsites for people who travel with a swag or campervan. You can't find those on booking but i linked their page so you can directly book with them.
BONUS: The ocean is just at your doorstep for those who fancy a beach day and if you don't want to cook you can go to lobster shack ( on walking distance ) to enjoy some delicious crayfish.

Day 4: From CERVANTES to JURIEN BAY
Today is an easy day. It is only a 26 kilometer drive that will take you 20 minutes if you drive directly but then it wouldn't be a roadtrip. We started our day with walking around lake Thetis. We visited kangaroo point and hangover bay and made our way back to the pinnacles as this is truly an amazing spot. We camped at Sandy Cape to soak up some vitamin sea.Ā Those who truly want to tick something of their bucket list can go snorkeling with the puppies of the see. Turquoise safaris offers tours to snorkel with the playful sea lions. This is a perfect half day tour for those that want a unique experience. It you are not interested in wildlife or animal encounters you can chill near Sandy Cape. This is a stunning white beach situated in a small, sheltered bay offering great swimming, snorkeling, fishing and sand boarding opportunities. sup'ing is popular with the bay offering calm conditions for water activities. Those who have access to a 4x4 can experience some great off-road tracks. It's also the perfect spot for an experienced kite surfer. Plenty of options.Ā What's your plan?
Sandy Cape is a great spot to visit or stay with the whole family with 78 @ 2WD campsites, BBQ and picnic areas. Dump point and not potable water source
There is a full time caretaker who will happily help with questions on arrival and collect fees. As you arrive at sandy cape there is an information post, here you will find the honesty box for payment of camping fees. Areas to the north and south of the campsite area are all part of the Land Reserve #19062. Fees apply across this whole area. Fees can be paid to the care taker or in the honesty box. You must keep your receipt; Rangers do patrol this area regularly, .Cost $20.00 per night for 2 adults 2 children $3 per additional adults
Campers to the north and south of the main Sandy Cape camping area must have their own power sources, drinking water, wastewater containers and toilet facilities.
Camp fires permitted from 2nd April (excluding Easter) to 19th September. Fires must be contained in a fire pit (BYO Wood)
During Peak Periods it is not uncommon, for Sandy Cape to fill up fast. Please be prepared with a Plan B if you are coming during these periods.
Are you ready for a to see one of the best parts of west Australia ? Let's go! Today is 372 kilometer drive. We stopped in Geraldton to see the ( not so bubblegum pink ) HUTT LAGOON. Perfect spot to have some lunch or drive a bit further to GERALDTON to eat some rock lobster. You can skip the hutt lagoon/ geraldton part if you need to return to PERTH because this spot is the perfect spot to relax after a long drive. We drove along the coast to see the natural bridge and watch the sunset on island rock.Ā
OOOOh KALBARRI, You BEAUTY!
Its located 570.9 km north of Perth (6 hours drive) by driving via State Route 60 and National Route 1.
From Coral Bay, itās a 6 hour 45 minute drive South (672.8 km) along National Route 1 for those who are doing this roadtrip in the different direction.
For 400 million years the flow of the Murchison River has carved gorgeous deep red and white striped gorges that stretch 80km towards the Indian Ocean.
Make sure to stop here more than a day because there is so much to do. You wont regret it!
1. visit NATURE'S WINDOW and take the famous instagram picture. This unique rock formation has been naturally formed in a window shape overlooking the valley of the national park.

2. Check out the Z- BEND hike! This was so much fun. Felt a bit like Maraiana jones. Tramping and scrambling down was a little adventure. It's not dangerous at all but well worth the views.
.
3. Walk the KALBARRI SKYWALK. This is included in the parkpass and well worth a visit for sunset and sunrise. It's spectacular to see how the light illuminates the gorge below. If you go for sunrise you can enjoy seeing the sun rises straight in front of you. Tell me is there a better way to start the day ?

4. Checkout ROSS GRAHAM LOOKOUT & HAWK'S HEAD. It's a bit off "the beaten" track but well worth the short hike.

5. Hike Along the Kalbarri National Park Coastal Cliffs. Yes this place has it all. Not only some beautiful gorges but also a stunning coast. You see, there is a lot to discover in this area. Keep a lookout for migrating humpback whales between the months of June and November. We experienced most of the 8km coastal walk in sections, driving from point to point and then walking to the various lookout points along the way. Make sure to stop at the NATURAL BRIDGE and ISLAND ROCK. Another phenomenal place to see the sunset. I admit i am a sunrise - sunset person and most of my itineraries revolve about this experience. It's perfect to reflect on your day with a coffee in the morning or a beer in the evening and it's free. win/win if you ask me.

6. Try to spot some sharks EAGLE GORGE LOOKOUT, swim in the BLUE HOLES or hike to RAINBOW VALLEY and MUSHROOM ROCK. If you haven't had enough of all this stunning landscapes, go to RED BLUFF LOOKOUT to spot some whales during season.

7. You find HUTT LAGOON on a short hour drive from KALBARRI. ( Best to do this if you come from PERTH or return to PERTH because it's almost on the way ). The shade of the lake differs depending on the time of year you visit it. this natural wonder is a vast scene of pink sea, which is caused by a natural algae that changes the pigment to a red color, making the lake a pinkish purple color. Best time to visit is between 10:00 AM and 02:00 PM because of the sunlight.
NEWSFLASH: It will never be as vivid bubble gum pink as instagram wants you to believe and during the summer the lake can pretty much dry up and look more like a salt flat, so itās best to manage your expectations before visiting.

Ideal place to camp. This rural piece of beauty is close to the KALBARRI coastal area to discover this little loop of this to do. Facilities are a bit outdated but it has it charms. You have to admit. "I would be a great sales person." As you already know it's all about the views for me and those are 11/10 as they overlook the ocean. My morning grumpiness quickly changed to happiness certainly if I saw the alpaca's playing around on this breathtaking piece of land.
They also organise some quad bike tour for those who haven't had enough adventure yet.
This is the place for those who like a bit more luxury with a campervan or for those who drive a car and don't want to camp. It's central located between the coastal attractions and the skywalk so ideal to discover al the beauty KALBARRI has to offer. It has all the self contained facilities you need combined with breathtaking views.

Day 6: Day around KALBARRI.Ā
We went to EAGLE GORGE lookout to see if we could spot some sharks.Ā Ā (newsflash: we didn't) We did the RAINBOW VALLEY HIKE and the one to mushroom point. Visited the REDD BLUFF lookout and took some lunch near the BLUE HOLES. I the afternoon we drove a bit inlands to see the other part of what KALBARRI has to offer. Let me tell you that this part didn't disappoint. Make sure you fuel op before you leave town otherwise you are screwed. Most petrol stations close at 18:00 and not allow card payments out of the terminal, just so you know. Our first visit was the ROSS GRAHAM lookout before we made our way to HAWKS HEAD. All the lookouts are close to the carpark so easy accessible. They show you a wide range of natural beauty. Then it was time to drive towards NATURE'S WINDOW. This is the part why most people want to visit KALBARRI. Don't forget to shoot the famous insta picture here but please don't fall. ( You should be fine no worries ) TIP:Ā Go early or late to avoid the crowd. We arrived an hour before sunset and we had the place to ourselves. Then it was time for another highlight. The skywalk, another ideal place to the sunset.Ā The Kalbarri Skywalk offers breathtaking views of the Murchison River gorge and the spectacular surrounding landscape. You will feel like you are floating on air as you take a "thrilling" walk out along two cantilevered viewing platforms that hang in mid-air 100m above the gorge. We installed our campervan in MURCHISON HOUSE after a day full of adventure and wandering around. This place is ideal located near the skywalk and the z-bend so you want have to drive too long at night.Ā
Another hidden gem. Nature camping at its best. ( If you are not scared of the birds and the bees. ) This area is closer to the skywalk so perfect for people who want to see the sunrise and/or sunset from there as this is only a short night drive away. The camping area is one of the oldest pastorale stations in WA and has a lot of coziness. Be honest, who doesn't like stargazing or campfires in the middle of nature ? Those who drive a 4WD can even go a bit more off the grid. Perfect for those who fancy a romantic night under the stars.

Day 7: From KALBARRI to SHARK BAY
We started our day by going back to the skywalk to witness the sunrise this time. Well now you know how special this place is because i keep on returning to this little piece of heaven. Thereafter we made our way to the z-bend. TIP: go down and do the river walk. I felt like a little kiddo in a big playground, climbing and tramping around the area. There are some ladders and goats to overcome but it is so worth it. After this hike and our morning coffee it was time to drive to HAMELIN POOL to be captivated by the stromatolites as they are the oldest form of life on earth. We stopped at shell beach before we made went to DENHAM. The gateway for shark bay and monkey mia. Today we drove around 454 kilometers in total but we made it for a beautiful sunset at our location instead of a night drive.Ā
Unfortunately I haven't seen sharks in SHARK BAY. I know, I was disappointed too. I can tell you that I haven't seen any shark on my Australian Roadtrip neither did I see snakes or dangerous spider so if this is your reason to not go to Australia you'd better come up with a different excuse. SHARK BAY is a short drive to MONKEY MIA that most people know and put on their itinerary to spot the "wild dolphins" in their natural habitat but it has a lot more to offer.
1. Go to MONKEY MIA to see the dolphins in their natural habitat. They do feed the dolphins to be fair so I don't know if i can call it a real natural habitat. They say they feed them only a third of the food they need but still.... I am a bit skeptical on this but on the other hand it is quite nice to see them on such a close encounter. Try to kayak or rent a peddle boat while you are there and maybe the dolphins come and say hello as they keep on roaming around the area.
NOTE: Separate fees apply for entry to Monkey Mia Reserve and are payable at the park.
Day entry passes purchased at other parks and extended period passes are not valid. You can pay for that pass at the entry or use the link below.
Price for an adult is 15$ - 5$ for a child - 10$ if you have a concession and 35$ for a family of 2 and 2 children.

2. Visit HAMELIN POOL home to the most diverse and abundant examples of stromatolites in the world. Also referred to as āliving fossilsā, stromatolites are living representatives of life over 3500 million years ago when there was no other complex life on Earth.
NOTE: the boardwalk is currently closed because it was damaged during Cyclone Seroja and due to reopen in late-2023. The stromatolites can still be seen from the Hamelin Pool quarry, however the view is limited
.
3. Make a stop at SHELL BEACH. One of the characteristics that limits life in the waters is hyper salinity. As with Hamelin Pool, the combination of high evaporation and the limiting water flow causes the water here to be twice as salty as the sea. As the name implies the beach at Shell Beach is made up a trillions of tiny shells. A perfect picture opportunity as it has something.

4. Go to the EAGLE BLUFF LOOKOUT to spot some DUGONGS ( love those ridiculous cute animals ). You find some bottlenose dolphins, turtles or humpback whales if you are lucky and the season is right.
.
5. Take a quick stop at LITTLE LAGOON. These quiet waters are perfect for people who like tranquility.
.
6. People who drive a 4WD can explore FRANCOIS PERON NATIONAL PARK. some parts are also accessible by 2WD but make sure to visit the visitor centre to see the current conditions as they are weather dependent.
Close to the beach and closer to an expensive IGA but this caravan park has it all. It's the perfect location for those who want to see other attractions than the famous MONKEY MIA dolphins. SUNSETS are stunning and facilities are ok-ish. Well they are clean but showers work with a timer so make sure you don' t shower too long after a day of hiking in KARIJINI NP as you will have to step out to turn on the light again fully soaped as you know what I mean.
This place hosts campervans but is also suitable for people who want to stay in a self contained cabin.
Another RAC, true ! But the perfect place if you want to relax with the dolphins. There is not much more to do here as all of the attractions are out of the area so that makes it the perfect place to sip a cocktail at the beach or indulge in some water activities.

Day 8: Day around SHARK BAY and MONKEY MIA
Relax & take it easy was our motto. Today you only drive around 189 kilometers around the area if you do what we did. We made our way to MONKEY MIA at 07:00 am because at 7:30 am you can participate at the first interaction session with the dolphins. We ate breakfast at the RAC and i have to admit that it was delicious (Try the bagels, they are top notch). We relaxed a bit at the beach, sipping a cocktail and watching the dolphins and emus (I love those crazy birds). You can also rent a pedal boat, sup or kayak. In some area's you can even swim. It's nice to stroll around in the area and just enjoy the moment. Believe me you need it because a roadtrip is not the insta-glam as people want you to believe. A roadtrip is hard work. In the late afternoon we drove to EAGLE BLUFF lookout to watch a stunning sunset. On the way we made a quick stop at LITTLE LAGOON. Those who don't like the busyness of MONKEY MIA can easily spend a few hours near LITTLE LAGOON. This place is ideal forĀ swimming, fishing, kayaking and kite surfing. You can laze on the sandy shores, stroll around the lagoon and enjoy the BBQ facilities at your leisure. After the incredible sunset at EAGLE BLUFF we drove to OVERLANDER ROADHOUSE as it is already a bit closer in the CORAL BAY direction we are heading tomorrow. At least try one roadhouse in Australia as they have a really unique fun outback vibe.Ā
Everybody needs to stay in a roadhouse at least once in your lifetime. It's an experience at itself and to be fair waking up between truckers and rolling out of your van to get some fresh coffee is a bonus. They even sell some pies for those who want some "real" Australian "food". Not my personal favorite but just give it a try i would say. The facilities here are nice and clean and you are directly on the main road. Easy and convenient if you ask me.
This place is perfect for people on a budget. You can rent a room or a place to set up your tent or campervan. It's ideal for people who can't decide if they want to stay in Denham or Monkey mia or for people on their way to Exmouth.
BONUS: It is close to Hamelin pool for people who have this on their itinerary.

Day 9: SHARK BAY to CORAL BAY
Lucky for you you had a little night drive yesterday so you are already a bit further near CORAL BAY. Don't be too enthusiastic as you still have to drive 534 kilometers if you stop at the QUOBBA BLOWHOLES like we did. Strange name i know but still a nice variety in your itinerary. I love nature phenomenons so for me this was an obvious choice.Ā It's important to plan your trip to the Blowholes if you want to get the most out of the experience. The Blowholes perform best when the tide is surging in for high tide, high tide isn't the best time as the water covers the narrow holes in the rocks, where the jets of water erupt from. If conditions are right: jets of water erupt into the air, sometimes up to a height of 20 meters, creating a spectacular sight.Ā Just one kilometer south of the Blowholes is a calm coral-filled lagoon known to the locals as the 'Aquarium', with fish and shells in abundance and a white sandy beach, making it a perfect hangout spot for a beach picnic. The lagoon is an ideal spot for snorkeling, especially for those least confident in the water.Ā
Coral Bay is a small coastal settlement located 1,200 kilometers north of Perth. It's named Coral Bay due to the beautiful coral gardens which lie mere meters from the pristine white sandy beach, this tiny, laidback seaside location is a must-visit destination for nature lovers. Coral Bay is all about the water and the coast.
Note: One of the best things about Coral Bay is that it provides walk-in access to the world heritage listed Ningaloo Reef Marine Park BUT don't get disappointed as most of the reef is destroyed due to a spawning event in march 2022 so you will have to take a boat tour or swim a bit further as professionals say. I couldn't understand why corals died because of a natural phenomenon so i did my research and linked the article for those that are as curious as I was.
1. Snorkeling off the beach at Billās Bay towards AYERS ROCK (not the one in the NT but the 5-6m rock formation you find here) is incredible. There arenāt many places in the world where you can step into the water, and the reef is literally a few swims away. You can take a sea scooter if you are not a confident swimmer, rent a bottom glass kayak or book a guided tour.

2. Look for reef sharks at the Coral Bay Shark Sanctuary, also known as the shark nursery. It 's about a 20 minute walk north along Billās Bay. ( It's a flat but rocky walk ) The area where the reef sharks congregate is called Skeleton Bay and is a part of the Ningaloo Marine Park. The best time of the year to see the sharks is between September and March.

3. Another great place to snorkel is the 5 fingers reef. Most blogs will tell you that you need a 4WD or a tour to get there but you can actually walk there. It's going to take you about 45' ( one way ) but it is worth it for those who are not having a 4 x 4 or those who are not willing to do a quad tour.

4. Enjoy the view, sunset or sunrise from the lookout.

Options enough but try to look for the marine life like turtles, manta rays ( you can spot these beauties all year round ), humpback whales ( between june and october ) or whale sharks ( between march and august ). Some of them you spot from shore if you are lucky and for others you need a tour. If you are only here in the area I would give it a shot to spot these incredible animals on a tour. If you go further north I would recommend to take a tour in EXMOUTH as I think it has a bit more to offer.

Not easy to find a place in Coral Bay so that's why we stayed in the overflow place from Peoples Park. Make sure you book well in advance if you go in the holiday season. The facilities are clean and they have everything you need for campers but also for road trippers who need accommodation. Bill's bay is at walking distance and it's really close to the famous Fin's cafe. ( their food is really delicious to be fair. ). A small downside for me was that it is a holiday park with a lot of children ( not the biggest fan of those kind of travel ) but overall it's value for money If you go to Coral Bay.
I haven't been to this place but there are not many possibilities in CORAL BAY if you are with a campervan. This is actually the second one so if PEOPLES PARK has no vacancy you can check out this park. It's kind of similar and lies also at a prime location. ( Both parks are next to each other. ) Free campers can also use wikicamp for other places but make sure to check the road conditions. Most roads are unsealed so you will need a SUV or 4WD.

Day 10: From CORAL BAY to EXMOUTH
Ā Almost there and this is one of the easiest drives. Only 163 kilometers so perfect to explore the area around coral bay before you head down to EXMOUTH. I started my day with coffee, like usual. With my coffee in my hand I walked to the lookout. I always love to see the surroundings from above. After enjoying the views it was time to make my way to skeleton bay and try my luck to spot some nursery sharks ( not lucky at all as it wasn't the right season ) but still a nice little walk. I returned back to bills bay and rented a glass bottom kayak. Anne-Marie, my roadtrip-partner-in-crime rented a wetsuit and together we explored the underwater marine life. She on the sporty snorkel way, I took the lazy kayak way. In Bills bay you find the underwater AYERS ROCK, not so spectacular as the real deal in the red center but still worth it. In the afternoon we made our way to 5 fingers reef so Anne-Marie could snorkel a bit more and then it was time to go to EXMOUTH. Believe me if I say that exmouth was another crazy highlight on my Australia trip. It's only 1,5 h drive so perfect to explore CORAL BAY until the afternoon so you can enjoy the sunset in EXMOUTH or enjoy a beer in ofcourse another RAC.Ā

1. One of my highlights was swimming with Humpback whales. Although these tours don't come cheap, they are worth EVERY single penny !! I have to admit this was insane. You get a breakie with some guidelines and then it is time to jump into the open waters. We had 4 snorkels sessions ( per group of 6 people ) with those amazing creatures and believe me that I was exhausted. A spotter planes gives direction so you have a 99% chance to see them. Even when you don't see them, they offer you a voucher to come back. So don't be the tourist who only stays in Exmouth for one day because if they fail to get an In-water Interaction with either of the big 3 ( Whale shark, or Humpback Whale or Manta), you will receive a come again at 1/2 price voucher as stated in Booking Terms & Conditions. Even without seeing this beauties the tour is top notch. You get two snorkels in different reefs. a great breakfast and a delicious lunch and snacks. The staff knows everything you need to know and most important: all you want to know ! They take your safety serious as this is still an encounter with a 60 ton mammal. They provide you gear and even sunscreen (what I obviously forgot) and you get all the footage on a usb ( bring your own or buy one. You can also give an sd card but make sure that they are not configured with mac ). So believe me if I say this is worth your last pennies.

2. The same company offers also tours to swim or observe whale sharks. This is still on my list but what I've heard is that it's incredible. The group are a bit bigger but again worth every dime. NOTE: I linked every tour below so you have the direct link to this outstanding company and you don't have to search. They are also cheaper if you book them via the tripadvisor link then on their regular site. You can drink 1 cocktail or two beers with 25$. Just so you know. They offer dive- and snorkeling tours to the Ningaloo reef or Muiron Islands or a sunset cruise. So what is your preference ?

3. Another thing to tick off your list is Charles Knife canyon. I can tell you that this is my favorite spot in the whole wide world to see the sunrise. Don't ask my why. it just is. It's the place where the reef meets the range. As you need a 4WD to explore the canyon you don't need one for going to the lookout. It's a winding and a bit steep road but it can easily be done by car or even by campervan. Let me know what you think of this beauty !
On top of my bucket list you find the Charles Knife hike in the Cape Range national park. Unfortunately this hike is closed indefinite due to extreme cliff and landslide risk. I will try this next time for sure myself knowing. Luckily there are a lot of other stunning hikes to do in Cape Range np. We did the Mandu Mandu gorge walk ( 3 kilometers return ) & the Yadie gorge trail. ( 2 kilometers return ). I always check all trails to preview a hike and reed some reviews. Don't take it too serious because most of the people will exaggerate. Don't ask me why but if you reed the reviews half of the people dies and every hike is a grade 5. NEWSFLASH: This is not true. Just walk your own pace and you will be fine. Enjoy the views, take a picnic and start walking. Thats's it ! Watch some youtube movies If you are still not sure, they can give you a glimpse on how the trail and the terrain looks. SPOILER ALERT: I haven't found any hike in Australia that is a grade 5 and I am not the fittest person. If I can do it. You can do it so don't believe everything they say.

4. Go snorkeling at turquoise bay Itās also unique in that you can drift snorkel, jump in at one end of the beach and let the prevailing currents float you along the reef.
To do this, simply jump in at the southern end, let the current take you along the reef, and then jump out at the sand bar. Make sure you are a comfortable swimmer.

5. Grab a beer and enjoy the sunset at Vlamingh lighthouse. It's a busy place so make sure you'll be there on time to reserve the best spot.

6. Last but not least go to Whalebone brewery to eat a delicious pizza while tasting some beer and listening to some live music. TIP: Buy a hoodie. I loved these so much that I ordered an extra one which they shipped to Belgium for an extra 32$ so make sure to buy two if you are a hoodie lover like I am or three if you want to send me one. āŗļø

A place for everybody. It doesn't matter if you are with a car and look for accommodation or with a campervan and look for a camp spot. This place is all about location, again. Right next door is the discovery centre where tours pick you up. Great if your tour starts at 7 am and you are not an early riser. It has clean facilities, like usual and all the convenience you need. Book this place early because this is again a really famous spot during peak season. TIP: Go to the discovery centre next door if there is no vacancy. They will open the overflow place next door. This place has also clean facilities but not the convenience of a little shop on side, laundry or a swimming pool but if you stay the first night in the RAC and you have the code you can easily get it. (Don't tell anybody I told you. ) Downside of the overflow park is that you have to pay the next day after 9 am in the discovery center if you are too late. It can be a long drive day if you want to make it like us to Karijini NP so if you stay in the overflow place you are already late to start the day.

Day 11: Day around EXMOUTH
There are a lot of things you can do in and around EXMOUTH so you'd better be an early riser. Today was the day we witnessed an incredible piece of underwater world. We went swimming with humpback whales. Scared like hell but this was worth all the money I had. A truly unique experience that i would recommend everyone. Try this at least once in your life. You gather around 7 AM and then it is time for some action. Once you are on the vessel the crew guides you with all you need to know. You get comfortable with a first snorkel session near the outer reef while a spotter plane looks for the humpbacks. The conditions need to be perfect. No calves can be involved, animals can't show aggressive behavior etc but again: this crew knows what they are doing to make this a true safe and spectacular, once in a lifetime experience. After breakfast it is time to get ready. Go go go ! A group of 6 people max jump in the water while the boat cruises away. The spotter plane is in contact with your guide in the water while you are lined up and then it is time to spectator this incredible mammals. My fear of them jumping up and squeeze made place for tears of happiness. Not easy to shed a tear in goggles but certainly possible, believe me. I even think i drowned Anne like almost 4 times. Every time they swam underneath me i was like: "Anne, you have to see this. " while she was like: yeah I know I can see them too, you know. It's not easy to miss as i am right next to you. Sorry Anne. With this I write you my sincere apologies. I didn't mean to almost kill you. After 4 dives with those beauties we had lunch and a last snorkel. This day was truly mind-blowing. Seeing dugongs, snorkeling with turtles, rays and many other beautiful creatures and an amazing catering. Hell yeah! Well worth the pennies for sure. If you have to chose to do one expensive experience let it be this ! Try to do this also on the first day in EXMOUTH because you never know. If they have to reschedule due to weather conditions you still have a chance go the day after whilst this is not possible when you already on the road again. This tour offers also free underwater pictures that you can pick up the day after from 9 am. so it is better to be there if you want to have them. We ended our day with a well deserved beer and pizza in Whalebone brewery. This was a wonderful day that puts a smile on my face whenever i think about it.
Start your day at CHARLES KNIFE CANYON ! This is my favorite sunrise spot in the entire world. Don't ask me why but just go and experience the magic this place reveals. After enjoying the sunrise and our morning coffee we decided to do some hikes because there is no better way to explore an area as by foot. We drove to Cape Range National Park and did the 3 kilometer Mandu George hike and the 2 kilometer Yadie Creek George before heading to the witness the sunset at the Vlamingh lighthouse spot. This place is incredible. Make sure to be there on time as it can be really busy.Ā
People who rented a car and fly back to Perth Have to go back with a QUANTAS flight from LEARMONT AIRPORT as this is the only company that has flights to exmouth. The airport is located 30 minutes out of EXMOUTH. Make sure that you can drop the car at the airport if you rent a car and look at the kilometers that are included otherwise this can cost you a lot extra. People who flew, hitchhiked returned their car/campervan in town or carpooled can use the bus charters to the airport. This service costs you 40 $ on way or 75 $ return. This is the cheapest and the most effective way as taxi's are most of the time on call and not always available.
People who can't get enough of their adventure have the choice to drive further to BROOME, DARWIN ( read al about this in: "all the way through WA vol2. and vol3" ) or return back to PERTH. It is not possible to return your campervan in EXMOUTH if you book with Travellers Autobarn. It is possible with companies like wicked but be prepared to pay a 1000$ one way fee. Believe me that this is way more expensive then driving back yourself and their reviews are not so great. Choice is your. You can chose for a cheaper company but if you experience something along the way it will cost you a lot more.Ā
I always like to end my travels in style. Sometimes you need to spoil yourself a bit and certainly after a roadtrip. Don't get me wrong it is amazing but tiring as you have some many impulses to process. My roadtrip didn't end here but if it ended here I would have booked at SAL SALIS for sure. I love unique experiences in rugged area's so this is for sure high on my list.

Day 13: From EXMOUTH to GERALDTON
Those who want to return to Perth better stop along the way because this is a 1253 kilometer or 13h drive so better stop in GERALDTON. Do not underestimate the 834 kilometer drive because you will be exhausted. Stop every two hours to drink a coffee or switch drivers because such a long drive can be boring. No worries I got you covered with the perfect sing a long song music list. Time to let your inner singstar out and enjoy a 9h drive (at least). Make sure to leave early so you can make it in time for a delicious rock lobster meal for which GERALDTON is famous.

Day 14: From GERALDTON to PERTH
It's time to organize your stuff and clean your campervan because this adventure comes to an end after the last 419 kilometer.Ā Relax the last days in Perth and see the things you haven't seen yet or take the ferry to ROTTENEST ISLAND to bike around the island and play with the cute fur Quokka's. It's all up to you. There is something to do for everyone.Ā
It's time to look back on your AMAZING ADVENTURE and return home with the best memories, some great stories & tons of stunning pictures.
The home of the quokkas ( and other wildlife ) is easy accessible by ferry. once you are there you can bike around or take the island explorer bus. It's only 22 kilometers loop so easily done in a couple of hours.
1. Take a QUOKKA selfie. we all know that this is the one thing you can't miss on the island. Those cute animals are easily find nearby the main street where the cafes are because they sure like food. Maybe it is my spirit animal after all. Don't feed them it is wildlife and they are not made for human food.

2. Those who don't like to bicycle can hike one of the hiking trails or take a guided walking tour. Make sure to check the last ferry otherwise you are stuck on the island. ( there are worse places to get stuck if you ask me. )

3. Take a picnic and enjoy the beach. I love those kind of activities. Best to bring your own food as it is expensive on the island and perfect to have some little snacks to slow down and enjoy the views. You might be lucky and spot some whales like I did.

4. This is the place for those who fancy a romantic getaway. The island offers some glamping opportunities. Open a bottle of wine and enjoy the sunset as other tourist already left the island.

Where to stay in you fancy a romantic night on ROTTNEST islandš
Besides RAC I am also a huge fan of discovery parks. Why? easy ! location location location and some uniqueness from time to time. This place has it all. Right in front of the beach and glamping opportunities. Yay I love to stay in tents, add here a balcony with a view and I am sold. I haven't been to this discovery as I sold already half of my liver to swim with humpback whales but those who know me know that i've done a lot of those park during my half the continent roadtrip.
For sure this one remains on my bucketlist so call me if you look for someone to accompany you.

Where to stay if you want a fancy bed in PERTH š
I am not the biggest fan of big hotels but from time to time this girl needs some comfort and a great shower. This is the place where you'll find it all. It's at a convenient location right in the cbd. It has all the facilities and convenience you need but most important ! The prices are right.

I met my sidekick Anne-Marie on facebook in one of the travel groups. Just place a message and maybe you find a lifetime friendship. Not only you can split the cost of the roadtrip, it is also best to have two drivers. FUN FACT: I fell down the stairs the day before we left so Anne-Marie had to drive the first two days.Ā ( I was a little too enthusiast i think )
We drove 2400 kilometers and paid 571,59 AUD ( 342,46 euro ) on fuel. Best is to do a roadtrip with at least two people to share the cost.
We paid 479 AUD ( 286,98 euro ) on campsites. This can be cheaper if you go to free campsites. These prices are for 3 persons so 159,66 AUD PP ( 95,62 euro )
We paid 1136,40 AUD ( 680,85 euro ) for activities and sightseeing. This includes the 1 month parkpass for WA, the entrance for Monkey Mia, beers and pizza in whalebone brewery and snorkeling with humpbacks.
We paid 155,55 AUD ( 94,27 euro ) a day for the campervan. This is because we rented one for more than a month so the price decreased. This price also included full insurance without liability, camping chairs and a table that we extra rented. I would recommend a full insurance ( wildlife is crazy and it looks like the kangeroos want to kill themself by jumping in front of your car -> not true: they are just confused by the lights of your vehicle )
We paidĀ 560 98 AUD ( 336,1 euro ) for groceries. This includes a beer a day, 10 liters of coffee, 5 liters of coca zero and a ton of cheese. ( I am a cheesy person ). This amount is spitted by 3 so actually 186,99 AUD or 112,10 euro per person
I paid at least double the groceries for my ciggies so it's not recommendable to smoke in Australia unless you are prepared to be bankrupt.
Make sure to download your maps, music and wikicamp as you have limited internet on the road and in some campsites.
