Natrabu Minang Restaurant
@samanthaang
I've always enjoyed the pandan-scented tea that Natrabu serves, which goes well with the heavy spices and flavours of Padang food. The restaurant entrance is well-decorated with photos of past visits by VIPs and VVIPs, letting you know just how good the food is.

Tugu Kunstkring Paleis
@samanthaang
Don't be shy to ask the staff about the vintage items around the restaurant, they might even offer to take you on a tour of the place like they did for me!

Warung MJS
@samanthaang
Warung MJS specialises in Javanese food and tends to the spicy side. How it works is that you pick your food from the WIDE array of choices before getting seated.
Dining here is not just for the food but also the quirky quaint design of the restaurant.
I do face some issues with the mozzies when eating here so you might wanna spray on some insect repellent before coming.

Kawisari Cafe & Eatery
@samanthaang
Start your day off here with some delicious coffee ☕from their own plantation in East Java. For breakfast, I highly recommend the Soto Ayam (a savoury tumeric chicken noodle dish) 🍜and Serabi Mak-Mak 🥞(traditional javanese pancakes). If you're up for something heavier, the Nasi Besek Ayam Goreng Kremes 🐔will not disappoint!
Don't forget to unravel the little piece of paper served with your coffee! You'll find a short poem (called 'pantun') that will probably leave you amused or intrigued 😂

Bakoel Koffie
@samanthaang
Don't miss the giant 'snakes and ladders' board as you head up the stairs, detailing the history of coffee in Indonesia.

Scarlett's Café (Senopati)
@samanthaang
Hats off to Scarlett's Cafe for captivating tastebuds with interesting and unique sweet treats, the most famous being their poured tiramisu (which has a matcha version too).
Be warned that the queues can be insane though! So visit during an off peak timing or take a queue number shortly before it opens to guarantee yourself a spot.

Modern Fusion Cuisine
Crio
@samanthaang
Apart from the mains, Crio makes its own chocolates in house so I highly recommend that you try them! Their chocolate chip cookies are also heavenly so grab a jar if it's in stock that day.

Piquant Restaurant Jakarta
@samanthaang
Boy would I have liked to keep this place a secret forever but it's too good not to share! Co-located with the cafe Chicory, Piquant offers a small but excellent menu, almost everything I've tried has impressed me, from the watercress soup to the 63 degree egg, and the fish.

Skye
@samanthaang
Located high up on Level 56 of the BCA building, come up here for a drink or two an enjoy the city lights of Jakarta - on a clear day that is. Air pollution in Jakarta is notoriously bad so be sure to check the air quality first.
Of course, even without the view, Skye - under the Ismaya chain - serves up some solid dishes, generally of the western variety.
