5 Best Brunch Spots in Brașov, Romania

5 Best Brunch Spots in Brașov, Romania

Romania doesn't have an early morning culture. Most restaurants serving breakfast don't even open until 10 or 11am. So let's skip breakfast and do BRUNCH. Here are my top 5 recommendations for brunch in Brașov, Romania. If you enjoy this guide, I'd so appreciate you saving it, leaving a tip, sharing it, or writing a review below. La Birou Bistro
@amyisgoingplaces
La Birou offers a variety of breakfast and brunch fare, including pancakes, eggs prepared numerous ways, and breakfast sandwiches. They also have kid-friendly options on the menu. Stop by for breakfast or lunch only. They close mid-afternoon.

La Birou is one of few places in the city open earlier for breakfast, in the single-digit a.m. hours! Another unusual feature: they offer a full kid's menu.

Opus 9
@amyisgoingplaces
Open all day, serving breakfast, lunch, dinner, and drinks. Not only is their food delicious and well-prepared, it's also beautifully presented (which, of course, makes it taste all the better!). Opus 9 is tucked away down a winding side street in the center of Old Brașov. Sit on the patio and enjoy views of this gorgeous city, while being out of the high traffic areas in other parts of downtown.

Tipografia
@amyisgoingplaces
Sandwiches, salads, smoothies, coffees and a selection of wines and beers is what you'll find on the menu at Tipografia, and that's not even the best part. They regularly host poetry and musical performances, and you're not unlikely to find poets engaged in passionate conversation on the terrace at any time of day. The employees were exceptional, making every patron feel welcome. And just for fun, make sure you check out the restrooms while you're there. Trust me.

Tipografia is a vibe. Bringing your laptop and making use of the free wifi is encouraged. Posters of past and upcoming poetry slams line the interior. Even the bathroom walls are covered in poetry - mostly in Romanian, with a footnote to ask the bartender for an English translation.

Bistro de l'Arte
@amyisgoingplaces
Dine in one of the oldest buildings in the medieval walled section of Brașov! Much of the architecture has been maintained, from the cobblestone floors to the arched ceilings. Open at noon daily, Bistro de L'Arte serves brunch, lunch, and dinner fare. The cuisine is upscale and seasonal, using local ingredients. Check their website below for current menu offerings. Note: The restaurant can be very busy, especially on holidays or during peak season. Reservations are not required but recommended.

I can honestly say I've never had a bad meal here. It's the place I take myself out on a date, and the place I meet up with my girlfriends for coffee and brunch.

Manna Manna
@amyisgoingplaces
Fresh, bistro style food is on the menu at Manna Manna. Don't skip on the coffee options either - they pull some of the best espresso shots in town! Manna Manna also provides a great environment to sit, sip, read, think, work, and simply BE for a while. Don't miss it on your next trip to Brașov! Note: The menu changes daily to feature locally sourced, seasonal ingredients. Vegan and vegetarian items are regularly offered. Check their Facebook page below for current menu selections.

Just looking at pictures from Manna Manna makes me hungry. Gorgeous, nutritious, bistro-style food, great coffee, AND an inviting environment? Yes, please.

Bonus location!

CH9 Specialty Coffee
@amyisgoingplaces
One of the best cups of coffee I've found in Brasov! CH9 is located directly across from the main entrance to Biserica Neagra, the Black Church. What a magnificent view as you savor a coffee and pastry! Personally, I enjoy that their baked goods are mildly sweet. They generally have two origins of coffee available. I 100% recommend their Ethiopia single origin roast. In addition to coffees and pastries, CH9 also offers juices, beer, and ice cream - something for everyone. Get it to go, or enjoy here! Seating is available at patio tables outside and inside the historic cafe building with exposed wooden beam rafters. You may even catch a live musical performance on the terrace. As of December 2023, CH9 has been added to the European Council’s Route of Historic Cafes, which highlights some of the oldest and most interesting cafes on the continent.

Can we call it a brunch spot if it's pastries instead of full entrees? Sure. We will this time! Whether you sit inside or outside, you can enjoy a view of the iconic Black Church, directly opposite the cafe while you dine.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
US native. Former resident of Romania. Current solo female globe trotter. I've ventured to more than a dozen countries across four continents as part of group tours, volunteer work, solo travel, studying abroad, and teaching internationally. I lived for over a year in Romania, many years in Tennessee, and several months in England. My travel style is slow, spontaneous, and - shall we say - richly flavorful. I prefer to stay longer lengths in places instead of having a whirlwind sightseeing venture. I'll skip the chain restaurants for a hole-in-the-wall café any day of the week. I prefer a loose itinerary and remain open to what each day brings. My favorite things to do and see as I travel are... - EAT - Try whatever is local. Order the special of the day. Talk with the restaurant staff. - WALK - It encourages me to slow down, notice, and get a feel for community. - HIKE - I'm a lazy hiker. By "hike," I mean a few hours at a slow pace. - MUSEUMS - Spend an afternoon. Read the descriptions on exhibits. Talk with the docents. Buy something in the giftshop. - CHURCHES - I'm fascinated by the various ways people have worshipped the God of the Bible over centuries and across borders. Many older churches are also museums or tourist-friendly spaces. Some additionally hold regular liturgical services. - CASTLES - Castles, fortresses, palaces, big ol' houses: these places transport me back in time. I imagine the people who built, lived in, and defended them. What would they think of how we now live? If this kind of travel sounds ideal to you, hit the Contact Me button! I'd love to help you experience slower, more meaningful travel. We'll discuss tips for how to make the most of your trip, with low stress, reasonable safety, affordability, and lots of fun.
