☕️ Cafes

La Forme Café & Bakery
@vanessaEatsPrague
Pistachio filled croissants, berry topped danishes and cinnamon monkey muffins are just a few of the sweet pastries that await you at La Forme. This is a favorite of locals in the neighborhood and for good reason: the display glass is always filled with so many different types of sweet and salty pastries that there is definitely something for everyone.

Místo
@vanessaEatsPrague
Misto cafe is home to doubleshot coffee, the OG specialty coffee roastery in Prague. When locals had to cross the city to visit that one cafe in Prague with delicious coffee, doubleshot was the name. Now, even though Prague has become a mecca for coffee, doubleshot and Misto still remain a favorite spot. Beautifully windowed cafe with steps to sit on and sip a coffee or tables to work at. You can't be in the neighborhood and not grab a flat white or cappuccino from Misto.

Kafemat
@vanessaEatsPrague
Sit in the window or take your coffee to go: Kafemat is a great place to grab a batchbrew or espresso, check the daily baked sweets (usually a buchty or kolace which are traditional Czech pastries) and take a bag of specialty coffee home with you.

🍻 Beer

Automat Matuška
@vanessaEatsPrague
The first independent restaurant of the popular family brewery : Matuška. Here you can find up to 10 craft beers on tap along with bbq specials, events , outdoor seating and just really good vibes. This place fills up during nice weather (every bench outside will be packed with locals drinking a beer after work) so come early or grab a glass and do standing space only at one of the tables outside the door.

🌇 Neighborhood Activity

Kulatak Street Market
@vanessaEatsPrague
This is one of my absolute favorite farmer's markets in Prague: it's big, there's lots of space between stalls so it doesn't get too crowded, and it's in a big open field so there's no need to worry about being surrounded by people. There are also many events in the Summer like live music, specialty festivals and beer festivals! Every Saturday from 8:00am-2:00pm. Follow them on instagram @trhynakulatku to check out their events!

🍽️ Restaurants

La Paisanita Dejvice
@vanessaEatsPrague
This newly opened spot serving up Argentinian empanadas is a neighborhood gem! The owners are the sweetest couple: so passionate about what they do! You will be entranced by the blue tile decor and neon sun emblazoned over the bar! And you won't want to leave after trying their chipas: small tapioca flour balls filled with cheese (they're literally like clouds of cheese).

An bistro cafe
@vanessaEatsPrague
If you live in Prague, you know the group behind An Bistro. They have some popular spots in other parts of the city : Cafefin in Vinohrady or Mazelab Roastery also in Bubeneč. Everything is impeccable: from the presentation of their cafe to their perfectly selected menu including the tastiest and most beautiful lemonades, coffees and iced drinks to their Vietnamese fusion inspired dishes.

Moshi Moshi - sushi and café
@vanessaEatsPrague
A new addition to the neighborhood (Spring 2024)! Moshi Moshi is bringing sushi to the masses while not skipping on quality or flavor. Hung is no stranger to the gastronomy scene: his family owns local favorite NGO in Vinohrady. When he told us about his concept: offering sushi at a reasonable price in a super modern atmosphere, we were intrigued. Since the opening they've done innovative events like LIVE running sushi (they run you sit- - - - bringing sushi to your table) to Japanese sandwich brunches. One of the most creative openings of the year!

🇨🇿 Czech Food

Pivovar Bubeneč
@vanessaEatsPrague
If you're ready to expand your Czech beer catalog to more than Pilsner, than Pivovar Bubenec is the place to grab one of the best lagers in town! This small local brewery and restaurant serves up Czech classic dishes like kulajda (dill soup with mushrooms, potatoes, cream and poached egg), rizek (ground pork schnitzel), and utopenec (pickled sausage with bread). You can also purchase canned beer to take with you and merchandise to commemorate your trip at a local brewery in Prague.

🛍️ Grocery Store

Billa
@vanessaEatsPrague
The local grocery store in the Czech Republic. Between this and Albert if you see one of these in the city you can rest assured that you will be buying goods where locals do and you won't be ripped off. Make sure to weigh your fruits and vegetables and stick them with a sticker before heading to the cash register. Also, most have self-checkout kiosks with English as an option.

☕️ Cafes

Cafe Hrnek
@vanessaEatsPrague
You can spot Cafe Hrnek on your instagram feed from their printed blue plats. Known for their great coffee and sweet breakfast (pancakes, oatmeal, buns all the syrup and drippy liquids you can ask for)! Don’t worry about sleeping in, brunch is served until 3:00pm.

Espresso to go and traditional Czech pastries like loupák and koláče done right! A few small tables inside and outside on the sidewalk.

@vanessaEatsPrague
You’re here for the instagram shot (along with an espresso shot). Don’t just stop at the entry, make your way to the back. It looks like it ends but when you turn left you’ll be in for a very cozy surprise: the decor is vintage Czech and you will want to snap your cup of coffee there. Did I mention the waving cats?

🍻 Beer

Sandwich Rodeo
@vanessaEatsPrague
Ok, get a sandwich while you’re here (this should also be on the food list but here it is in beer). The filet-o-fish is not your McDonald’s sandwich. This is the reason fish sandwiches have blown up in Prague. BUT, per the list, great local beers on tap! You can always find a sour, lager or IPA. Scoot into one of their oh so 70s and oh so large booths and enjoy.

🌇 Neighborhood Activity

Holešovice Market
@vanessaEatsPrague
This is not just a market, no, it’s so much more. Not only will you find fresh produce, local sellers, food, bread and cheese in hall 22 but you can also expect food festivals out among the buildings, live concerts, exhibitions and just a lot of space to walk around and explore. Follow them on instagram to see what events are happening while you visit @holesovickatrznice.

🍽️ Restaurants

Teplá kačka
@vanessaEatsPrague
You can’t find a lot of dim sum variety in Prague, but Tepla Kacka is doing the best job bringing more to the city. Sumai, soup dumplings and potstickers are on the menu. Along with pork belly wraps, small shareable appetizers and very cool interiors.

PIPCA
@vanessaEatsPrague
Another grilled chicken place! But really, there aren’t that many. But Pipca is an OG and has pretty darn good sides: love their potatoes and Czech traditional Čalamáda (slavic kimchi). Sit in their courtyard during the Summer for a twinkly light fairytale.

Cobra
@vanessaEatsPrague
This place is cool. Really, your coolness factor will go up by at least 5pts just for coming here. This is where you go for cocktails in the neighborhood and you sit outside on the ledge so the tram travelers can go by and wish they were you. You can also get a very good meal off the lunch menu.

🇨🇿 Czech Food

Belcredi Bistro & Bar
@vanessaEatsPrague
Where the chefs cook up their favorite dishes whether it be Asian inspired, Italian or classic European. Come here to see what they’re inspired by at the moment. I suggest their soups and classic Czech dishes: they are super flavorful!

🚋 Travel to The City Center

take tram 6, 8 or 26 from Strossmayerovo náměstí to Dlouhá třída and it’s a 10 minute walk to Old Town Square

Karlín

The Karlin of now is not the Karlin of the past. Before 2002 you would barely recognize this now trendy neighborhood that used to be filled with industrial buildings and factories. After the major floods in the early 2000s, the neighborhood revamped and now you can find cafes, restaurants, green hangout spots and the mini center of tech in Prague.

This is the neighborhood for you if you are a ...

▪️Business Traveler: Given Karlín's emergence as a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship, business travelers seeking convenient accommodations and access to co-working spaces

▪️Families: Visitors who enjoy outdoor relaxation amidst green spaces would be attracted to Karlín's parks, gardens, and playgrounds providing a tranquil retreat within the bustling city.

▪️Art and Culture Enthusiasts: Those interested in exploring galleries, attending performances at the Karlin Music Theater

▪️Budget-conscious Travelers: Karlín offers a range of accommodation options, including boutique hotels, hostels, and rental apartments, making it suitable for travelers seeking affordable yet comfortable lodging.

Where to stay?

✔️Pick accommodation near Karlínské náměstí. This square in front of the church is a perfect green space in the Summer : filled with locals drinking beer from nearby Lokal. There are also festivals and farmer's markets on the weekend.

☕️ Cafes

GROUNDS S16
@vanessaEatsPrague
Have you heard of Nitro coffee? But have you heard of a nitro flat white? Ok, maybe you have but I had my first one here. These are coffee purists, people, so don’t go asking for syrup in your coffee. Another instagrammable courtyard for the warmer months.

Ye's kafe | wine

Right by the bike path in Karlin, this is a perfect spot to have a coffee and then walk along the Vltava where you can explore beach volleyball and other small spots for outdoor drinks and recreation.

EMA espresso bar
@vanessaEatsPrague
They were one of the firsts and still one of the bests. This newer location in Karlin has outdoor seating where you can watch people scurrying off to work in all the nearby tech offices.

🍻 Beer

Dva kohouti
@vanessaEatsPrague
Hands down my favorite beer garden in Prague. No, there’s no Pilsner (don’t despair, across the courtyard at LoKal you can grab one) but there is craft beer by Matuška brewed on site. Not to mention their order kiosk, party atmosphere (stick around for the dj) and have you seen the courtyard? You’re surrounded by Bufet and Lokal, so you won’t go hungry.

🌇 Neighborhood Activity

Kasárna Karlín
@vanessaEatsPrague
This place is fun. Really fun. You have cafes, bars, Summer cinema, art galleries, beach volleyball: all enclosed in this ginormous space in the middle of buildings. There is always something happening here, no matter the season. I would suggest coming in the late afternoon to grab a well priced cocktail and watch the sun go down behind the buildings.

🍽️ Restaurants

KRO Karlín Bistro & Cocktail Bar
@vanessaEatsPrague
The cocktail version of the Kros (they have a few locations). This is where you come for a cocktail and to test their more experimental menu. They’re still a chicken rotisserie but sometimes I’ve seen ramen on the menu or tempeh. Make a reservation, they will be packed!

Etapa
@vanessaEatsPrague
Why is a brunch place full every day of the week at every hour no matter the season? Besides having a great menu, this is what happens when food bloggers open their own place. Popular food bloggers. If you can’t make it in for a meal, grab something from their counter : a brownie, loaf of bread or other pastry. If you’re not leaving Prague without trying their fermented veggies and scrambled eggs then take your breakfast to go and eat across the street at the small green space in front of Socha Intelligence.

Nejen Bistro
@vanessaEatsPrague
This was one of the first nicer restaurants I ever visited in Prague. Part of a collective of some of my favorite restaurants in Prague, this place is still a staple of Karlin with their classic dishes: beef tartare, beef cheeks in red wine sauce and beautifully cooked fish plates. Everything is a notch higher in quality and presentation.

🇨🇿 Czech Food

POP UP ze Zátiší
@vanessaEatsPrague
Newest kid on the block and part of Zátiší restaurant group. Surrounded by glass, this place is a bright spot amidst the tech office buildings along the streets. You can come here for brunch, lunch or dinner. Definitely a spot to bring a group for a nice meal out.

🛍️ Grocery Store

Lidl
@vanessaEatsPrague
Don’t be overwhelmed by the aisles of boxes with product inside (I still can’t get used to it). While somewhat disorderly, this is indeed a local grocery store where you can find very good prices on quality food. They also have themed weeks: American, Italian, Greek, you name it. Where you’ll find a big selection of what you can imagine in a themed week of American food : peanut butter, marshmallow fluff?, and burger buns.
