Ultimate list of spots you CAN'T MISS in Alghero, Sardinia, Italy.
This guide provides all the information you need before traveling to the Northern part of Sardinia --- from the best day trips, restaurants/bakeries, and picturesque spots.
My recommendations are based on my experience, as a solo female traveler, during my 4-day vacation to the island in September.
It's a charming coastal city that boasts stunning scenery, great food, and incredibly nice locals.Β
Sardinia Italy is also a surprisingly affordable destination -- from the transport to accommodation.Β Β
I visited during off-season (late October) which meant the town was a bit sleepy, but the streets and beaches could be enjoyed without many people around at all.Β
During my short 4 day trip, I visited Alghero, Porto Torres, and Bosa -- all located in the northern part of the island.Β
Next time, I definitely want to check out the southern end -- particularly Cagliari.
This time however, it was not realistic, as it would have been a 5-6 hour trip one-way from Alghero to Cagliari :(Β
Luckily, I found 4 days to be a perfect amount of time to leisurely explore the major cities of northern Sardinia, which I am excited to share below!
Located in a safe, residential area walking distance from the old center, this is a great place for your stay in Alghero.
Rated highly for the customer service and hospitality as well as breakfast options, free on-site parking and a balcony.
Airport shuttle included.
Best value for its location thatβs 15 minute walk to the beach!
Thereβs also an outdoor swimming pool, a private parking lot, room service and a breakfast buffet.
Just a walk away from the historic old town, this is a wonderful spacious apartment for the most private, comfortable stay in Alghero.
Guests praise the property for easy parking, free wifi, and a friendly host.
MUCH prettier than the beaches closer to Alghero's city center. It's about a 30 min walk from the historic center but SO worth it for soft yellow sand and crystal blue waters that was barely populated when I went.
My favorite bakery in Alghero. Pastries are super fresh and there is a great selection of traditional pastries to Sardinia and classic Italian ones as well.
WOW this place serves incredible pizza. While the classic Margherita was great, I actually loved our waiter's suggestion of getting the ragu meat sauce pizza! He says they stew it for hours before putting it on the pizzas.
Be warned: this place requires a TREK and a steep decline to access.
But it was worth it. It's absolutely stunning and hardly anyone was there when I went.
