Prague My Top 10 visits and why
Hello and welcome to my guide to Prague !
Famous city of east Europe, I have wanted to go there for quite some time now, and well now I have ! I like to discover cities we talk a lot about, but not always in the same way as everyone. I have to know the history of the place when I leave. If that's your kind of trip, then this guide is for you !
How did I come to Prague?
I took the plane from Luxembourg city with Luxair (love this company), but I also had the choice to come by train, bus, or car since France is actually not so far.
How to move in Prague?
I guess this will depend on the weather as always, and where your hotel is located. My hotel was a 10min public transport journey from the center, so I took a 72hours bus ticket you can use on the bus, tram and metro (you can also use it if you take the bus from the airport to your hotel/ accomodation
In the center, you will walk a lot. Everything is close.
My Top 10 Activities
1 - Astronomical clock
This is the main "monument" if we can call it, everyone has to see when you go to Prague. The clock is quite nice, and something I didn't know is that it actually rings every hour ! We got there like 4 minutes before 6 o'clock and so many people were gathered around the clock, I had no idea why and then I found out ! It's like your old grandma's clock, that rings and little personnages come out of the holes above the clock and turn. Unexpected !
2 - The Castle
Did you know Prague had a castle? Yes? Ok, but did you know it is the world's bigger medieval castle? Haha got you! The castle is open to visit, and you can wander around for free, but you have to buy tickets to enter in the cathedral, churches, palaces, etc... It's like in the movies, when you have the fortress surrounding the whole village? Yeah similar ! You have different price ranges according to what you wish to visit.
Also, you have quite a nice view on the city from up there!
3 - Bridge Charles
The Charles Bridge is in the middle of the city. It's a nice spot to take a little boat tour/ cruise of 1hour or 2, and you can even take cruises with drinks, food etc... I bought my tickets on Getyourguide !
On the bridge, a lot of artists are showing off their art (musicians, drawings, paints, ...)
4 - John Lennon Wall
The John Lennon Wall is not far from the Charles Bridge ! When you get there, you'll probably see lots of people queing to take a picture in front of the center of the mirror on the wall. The whole wall is full of street art, and if the queue is too long, you can go to the left of the wall where there is a little garden and open art museum.
The Wall stands for liberty and freedom, it was a place where people could express themselves during communism time.
5 - National Museum of Prague
The National Museum of Prague is quite big, and what I didn't expect was to have an entire floor dedicated to natural sciences with big sharks, crocodiles and even a whale skeleton !
6 - Dancing House
The Dancing House is a particular monument to see in Prague due to its strange form ! It's also a hotel, a museum, a restaurant and a rooftop bar. Yup, it does it all
7 - Museum of Communism
Back to culture, history and learning our way through Prague! The Communism Museum is located on the Republiky Place.
It brings you back in time to Communism Time and shows you pieces of what it looked like, "to live as a community" with its ups and downs
8 - Prasna Brana
Built in 1475, the Powder Tower is the monumental gateway to the Old Town, once used by the coronation processions of Bohemian kings. You can climb to the top for a nice view!
9- Klementinum
It's a library, which you can visit on a combined ticket with the astronomical clock :)
10 - Memorial to the Victims of Communism
The statues decomposing themselves lets you interpret their meaning, like how they lost part of their identity through communism to all become similar maybe
Where to eat
Restaurant Mincovna
They make a great gulash and asparagus soup !
This restaurant is in the center, right next to the Astronomical clock and has very good reviews
Adele's Bar & Restaurant
We ate there our last day, it's located on the Republiky Place and has a terrace, plus amazing deserts!
Palladium Praha
This is a big commercial center right in the center of Prague. If you go on the last floor, there is a huge foodcourt, with chinese, thai, italian, american, indian etc... all kind of foods
Accomodations
I'll make a part 2 for different kind of activities !
