Bali love. Find your perfect district to stay ♡
Necessary to know:
- There are many gems for staying in Bali, so check Airbnb as well as booking.com
- If you don't know how to ride a bike - download the Grab app - you can be picked up by a scooter driver and taken to the point you need to go to
- If you need to order food or anything else - the GoJeck app is the best for it
- Bluebird is the official taxi provider, and they have an app, however, in some districts, you can still order uber (not everywhere as locals fight with this system)
- Exchange points - please go to the trusted ones! This is one of the most scammed areas on the island. Look for Mr and Mrs Butler (or other trusted ones)
- Sim card - get one upon arrival; this will save you money for the internet traffic, and it is often needed for local restaurant booking - Telcomsel is decent. You can get it at the airport; the price is the same.
1. Ubud -The Heart of Spiritual Serenity
For those seeking a serene escape to recalibrate, immerse themselves in the authentic essence of Bali, and surrender to the island's spiritual allure, there's no better destination than Ubud. Alongside Bali's cultural, artistic, and yoga-rich enclave, Ubud is the quintessential haven for those pursuing tranquillity. Unlike the bustling beach towns that draw throngs of tourists, Ubud maintains a gentler, more peaceful rhythm. The cost of living here is notably more affordable, allowing you to savor the finer aspects of life without breaking the bank. Moreover, the town boasts many enchanting restaurants, each offering a culinary journey to tantalise your taste buds. Ubud beckons you to embrace the true essence of Bali, providing an oasis of calm and cultural richness.
PS. If I were asked how to start a proper journey to this magical Island, I'd suggest breaking the usual tourist route and going straight to Ubud for a few days to slow down, breathe out your daily routine and get into the island slow vibe.

2. Umalas - A Tranquil Retreat Amid Bali's Vibrant Neighborhoods
Nestled between the bustling hotspots of Seminyak, Petitenget, and Canggu, you'll discover this charming little village that offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of its livelier neighbours. Here, the scenery is dominated by lush, emerald-green rice paddies that envelop the surroundings in tranquillity. This village's prime location lures visitors with diverse local restaurants offering spectacular vistas, a handful of delightful homeware shops, and some beautiful spots to unwind. It's the go-to choice for those seeking a quieter, serene experience, all while remaining just a stone's throw away from the lively action.
3. Seminiak: Where Bali's Life Unites
This is the epicentre of Bali's tourism scene. Seminyak living exudes a refined and laid-back vibe, a stark contrast to the bustling energy of Kuta. During the day, the beach here offers a much more tranquil escape, although please keep in mind that you cannot swim on this side of the island, and during some months when the water stream goes towards the island, it can be a bit dirty. But you won't notice it from the terrace of luxurious beach clubs that Seminyak can offer. Seminyak harmoniously blends the best of both worlds, offering everything you desire. Today, it's Bali's burgeoning hub for fashion, dining, and top-tier accommodations, making it an enticing magnet for expatriates. Nestled just north of Legian and Kuta, a mere 10 kilometres from Denpasar, Bali's capital, Seminyak has earned its reputation as a food lover's paradise. Here, you can savour exquisite flavours from across the globe, crafted by renowned chefs who have made their mark on the international culinary stage. Furthermore, Seminyak's shopping scene is renowned for its opulent fashion boutiques and leisurely retail outlets.

Aside from being one of the best places to live in Bali, Canggu is a favorite of digital nomads as it has many workspaces.
The dominant vibe in Canggu is edgy, hip, and busy. If you prefer to meet new friends, this area is for you as there are many locals and tourists.
Thanks to its abundant coworking spaces, Canggu isn't just one of Bali's prime residential locales but a beloved haven for digital nomads. 4. Pererenan beach - new trendy area, aka new Canggu
Where Bali's Heart Beats at a Tranquil RhythmIf your dream island escape involves staying close to the action while basking in the unmistakable Balinese charm, then the peaceful village of Pererenan might be your perfect sanctuary. Nestled between the chic vibes of Canggu and the serene tranquillity of Seseh, this area holds a special place in the hearts of expats, offering a treasure trove of exceptional villa options. Wandering through Pererenan's scenic landscapes adorned with lush rice fields, volcanic black sand beaches, and enchanting Balinese temples, it becomes effortlessly apparent why this place has become a cherished home base. Pererenan is the epitome of a laid-back destination, drawing in travellers who crave the proximity to trendy Canggu, all while cocooned in the embrace of timeless Bali, complete with its resplendent rice fields and enduring charm.
What to see?
A stay in Pererenan is not so much about ticking things off your bucket list – it’s more about enjoying life and the scenery and letting days drift by as you wander through the rice fields or stroll down the (near) deserted beach. If you stay in town long enough and open yourself up to the experience, you’ll see why so many expats have settled here for good!

4. Kuta and Legian – Dynamic travel destination
Kuta, where the heart of Bali's lively spirit beats with unmatched enthusiasm. Here, you'll find a fusion of cultures, from the vibrant local scene to the many tourists who flock to this iconic destination. Kuta's streets hum with energy, offering many activities, from world-class surfing to bustling markets and nightlife. The famous Kuta Beach is a great spot to meet the sunset and is suitable for surf beginners as well.
As the day turns into night, Kuta's vibrant nightlife comes alive, with countless bars and clubs ensuring the party never ends.
For the shopaholics, Kuta presents a shopping paradise, with markets and malls showcasing a variety of Balinese souvenirs, fashion, and local crafts.
Dining options are equally diverse, ranging from casual warungs to international cuisine. So, if you're ready to dive into Bali's dynamism, Kuta is the place to be, as for me, not the best place to stay, but tastes are different, so you better decide for yourself.

Included as one of the best places to live in Bali is Uluwatu, frequently called Bukit Peninsula. It is situated in the region’s south and is specifically famous for its remarkable beaches.
Compared to Canggu, Uluwatu offers a more serene vibe courtesy of lush spots and less crowded beaches. Furthermore, traffic is subtler in the area.

10. Sidenem - absolutely new district to look into
Tip: Sidemen is a great day trip from Ubud. The distance from Ubud to Sidemen, Bali, is only 33 km, and it typically only takes an hour or so to reach.
Sidemen (pronounced ‘see-da-men’) is the name for the main village as well as the surrounding area, including Selat. The locality is nestled between the valleys of central east Bali, with the majestic Mount Agung always present in the distance.
Unlike many Bali islands, it is still relatively untouched by tourism. However, it is slowly getting the recognition it deserves for its stunning natural beauty and relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. The incredible landscape should be enjoyed more slowly, so take your time and settle into the peaceful rhythm of rural life here.
What to see?
Walking trail - there are multiple trails in Sidenem that are marked with signs
Jagasatru Waterfall
Note: Tirta Gangga Water Temple is 45 minutes from Sidemen, Bali. However, you can combine it with a trip to Taman Ujung.
Where to stay?
Sidemen gained popularity due to the bamboo houses that started popping up some years ago. Spend a few days in these natural wooden structures, gazing out at the incredible views of the rice paddies. Often, the houses are open to the elements or have expansive windows, so you have unimpeded views of the surrounding landscape.
