There are LOADS of hostel options around Thailand. Backpacking culture is widespread here, so if anything, you may feel overwhelmed with potential options. The following hostels are the places I stayed while backpacking Southeast Asia for 3 months -- hopefully this can save you a little time in your search!

BED STATION Hostel Khaosan, Bangkok

BED STATION HOSTEL KHAO SAN
@carapal
While we had a hard time finding the entrance to this hostel, once we were able to drop our bags and relax, it was a really nice place for our first night in Bangkok. The rooms have good AC that is on all day (which is clutch when you need a break from the heat). The beds are like little pods, with lots of privacy, and are very spacious. There is a pool along with food and drink options.

Puk's Palace Thailand, Koh Phangan

Puk's Palace
@carapal
Puk's Palace is exactly what you're looking for when you arrive to the south of Thailand -- it's right on the beach. There is a beach bar, daybeds and hammocks all around, and two bulldogs always meandering around. While this wasn't my favorite place we stayed, I know many people stayed and loved it! The big issue (for me personally) was that they only had the AC on at night in the dorm rooms, so there was no where to go when you needed to escape the heat and cool down a bit. There also isn't a lot of privacy in the dorm rooms -- but hey, it's a hostel!

Assava Dive Resort, Koh Tao

Assava Diving Koh Tao | PADI Scuba Diving Centre & Hotel Beach Resort, Thailand
@carapal
My partner and I chose to stay at Assava to escape the crazy hostel life for a few nights. It's in a quiet part of Koh Tao, away from the main strip where a lot of backpackers stay. We absolutely loved our stay here, it was calm, relaxing, and right on the beach. There was a pool, as well as food and drink served on property. They even had a van that came and picked us up from the dock and brought us to the hostel for free! Many people also go on dives here, which we did not do since we were there to relax, but it's super convenient if that's something you're thinking of doing in Koh Tao!

Lub d, Koh Samui

Lub d Koh Samui Chaweng Beach
@carapal
Lub D is a massive hostel/hotel. At first, I was worried that it would feel too much like a hotel and that it would be hard to make friends, but that proved to be false! They made it in fact, very easy. They give each guest a coupon for a free welcome drink on arrival, and a chance to spin a wheel to win various prizes (I won a free beer). There are events happening every night, it's a very lively location. The rooms were very nice -- AC, beds with curtains, lockers for your bag, etc.

Nomads Hostel, Ao Nang

Nomads Ao Nang
@carapal
Probably my favorite hostel I stayed in while in Thailand! It was the perfect mix of social and fun, while also not being too crazy, and all of the people I met were so kind and cool! There is a pool, restaurant, and bar and they run daily tours and events where you can meet other guests. Also, while they make sure you know that it's a party hostel, every night, exactly at 11PM, all the music is shut off and is done for the night. They take people to bars and clubs in the area if they want to keep the party going. So it's not difficult to sleep at all, and the beds were the most comfy of the whole trip, i miss it here.

Blanco Hostel, Koh Lanta

Blanco Hostel @ Lanta
@carapal
The energy at Blanco was incredible. We met so many cool people throughout our stay, and made some of our favorite memories of our trip here. Blanco has events every night organized by the hostel, so it's easy to make friends and have something to do! There is also a pool, food and drinks to order, and it's right next to the beach! I would highly recommend staying here if you visit Koh Lanta.

The Snug Airportel, Phuket

The Snug Airportel
@carapal
My partner and I only spent one night here. We chose it because of its close proximity to the Phuket Airport and it was everything we needed to prepare for the next leg of our journey. There was a pool, food and drink options at the front desk, motor bike rentals, even car rentals to get you to various places, including the airport. We stayed in a private room and it was one of the nicer ones we stayed in on our trip!

Back Home Backpackers, Bangkok

Back Home Backpackers
@carapal
I wouldn't necessarily recommend a long stay here. This was probably one of my least favorite hostels we stayed at, BUT it was in close proximity to the things we needed and it was good for one quick night before hopping on a bus to Cambodia.
