Portofino Guide

Portofino is definitely one of those places you step foot into and ask yourself “how is this place real?” You truly feel like you are in a dream. It is a fishing village in the Italian Riviera and it is known for its charming port, luxury stores, fisherman boats, ad seafood restaurants. It is the combination of these things that make that harbour feel so special. Portofino is much smaller in size than what people might imagine it to be and you can see it all in just a day. It is also quite expensive. It is definitely worth seeing but you don't necessarily need more than a day here, so what I recommend is staying in the town nearby, Santa Margherita, and venture off to Portofino for day trips or in the evenings. There’s a bus that takes you there in just 10 minutes. That being said, here is everything I would do while in Portofino and what I think is actually worth seeing, eating and drinking!

Breakfast at Cafe Excelsoir

I love starting the morning off here to enjoy a breakfast pastry, cappuccino and take in the view of the water. This place is a also great for an aperitivo in the evening.

This spot is perfect for breakfast (the apricot jam cornetto is my personal fave) and also great for aperitivo or after dinner drink!

Hike to Al Faro Portofino

This is a short 15-20 minute hike that starts in Portofino port and goes to the lighthouse. Along the way there are many incredible viewpoints and picturesque sceneries. The best part about this hike? There are two bars when you reach the end of the hike that are perfect to grab a seat at, enjoy a drink and take in the views!

I currently live in Milan and have spent the past few years exploring the nooks and crannies of Italy and other European destinations. I grew up with family restaurants in Toronto and Los Angeles and studied hospitality and tourism management...so you could say I have a bit of a passion for food and beverage. When I travel I am always looking for the best and most authentic spots to eat and drink at. Besides this, I love all things health and wellness related, cooking, meeting new people and experiencing high-end but authentic vacations!
