TOP 10 THINGS YOU HAVE TO TRY!

Because Switzerland is so diverse in terms of cultures, each region has its own traditions and own food specialities. There are classic, such as the fondue or raclette that you might find everywhere, but most of them are specialities relative to their region.

#1 The cheese fondue

A classic in Switzerland! You just can't leave Switzerland without having tried it at least once our national dish, especially during Xmas time!

#2 The raclette

Another national dish, and more practical than the fondue because you don't need to sit down. Look for the authentic ones where half of the cheese is melted and then scooped on your potatoes!

#3 Zimtsterne

Literally "Cinnamon stars", these are cookies that we cook during Xmas time

#4 Leckerli - Swiss Gingerbreak-like treat

These are typical Swiss treats with a honey base, almonds, and small pieces of fruits. A must-eat during Xmas time.

#5 Nusstorte

This is a Swiss speciality; literally a "nut cake". You often have a crust all around with walnut filling in the middle!

#6 Christstollen

This is a pastry filled with fruit and rolled. A tradition for Xmas time.

#7 Hot chocolate

Another Xmas classic. But being in the country of chocolate, it always hit a sweetpoint, especially when it's a little colder outside! Also don't forget to try regular chocolate!

#8 Tartiflette

If i am not wrong, this is actually a dish with French origin, but it has become one of the most consumed dish in Switzerland. It is baked potatoes with cheese and bacon. It was one of my grandma's favorite!

#9 Roesti

We often eat this on the ski slopes and it is one of our national dish. It is a kind of hashbrown. Each region has its own style of making it. It can be eaten as a side or main course. Often garnished with cheese, fried egg, meat, etc.

#10  Vin Chaud/Gluhwein

What else to stay warm while walking around the market?! This is a must-try. There are some with wine or without!

Again, this is only a sparkle of all what you could eat. There are many other specialities that you can try.

And don't forget to bundle up before you go!!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
This is not your one-week relax and chill retreat vacation recommendations at the beach. I am more of a live-my-life-to-its-fullest and make-the-most-of-my-day type of traveler. Ironically, I love equally to travel solo or with a bunch of friends/family, eat old sandwiches on a backpacking trip or lavish on gastronomic food, a spontaneous adventure where we decide at 9pm where we are sleeping or a day-by-day planned trip. No matter where, how, with whom, and for how long, I choose to prioritize the experience and memories. And with a friendly budget. Sometimes, budget friendly means only booking a room on Airbnb in order to enjoy a nice brunch. Or, going to the grocery store to balance out an expensive scenic train ride. It's all about balance! At 24 years old, I am nowhere to be a travel expert. But, I lived in 4 different countries already, across two continents, and have a google maps saturated with saved pins. My obsession in finding the best gems, hidden spots, good food, fun cocktails, and unique experiences, has brought me here. You will find a good mix of shorts spontaneous weekends trips up to longer adventures; road-trip itineraries to nice hotels; Instagram- or TikTok-inspired worthy spots to unknown local gems; photogenic sceneries to more authentic views and smells. And occasionally, great spots to relax on your adventure. Because even if I enjoy walking 20'000 steps a day, I also enjoy a good spa/beach day as well!
