Essential Insights about Mallorca

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Language

โœˆ๏ธ Airport

Palma de Mallorca Airport
@martaplore
The Mallorca international airport is located approximately 8km east from the main city, Palma. In order to reach Palma (if you do not have a rental car) the best way is to take the bus A1 that runs approximately every 15 minutes. A single journey ticket will cost you 5โ‚ฌ and will take around 20 minutes

๐Ÿ—“๏ธ Best Time to Visitย

April-June or September-October

With this being said I travelled to Mallorca in July because it was the only month in which I had vacations so having a great time during high season is still possible

5 to 10 daysย

Brief Introduction to Mallorca's Geography (+ Where to Stay)

Discovering the geography of Mallorca firsthand during my travels, I've learned a valuable tip: optimizing your stay location is key to unlocking the island's full potential. Based on my experience, I recommend switching accommodations three times during your one-week trip. This strategic approach minimizes travel time and maximizes exploration opportunities.

Before delving into the best places to book your stay, let's delve into the geographical nuances of Mallorca. Understanding the island's layout is essential for planning an unforgettable adventure.

๐Ÿ“Œ West coast: mountains, cliffs, most beuatiful villages

๐Ÿ“ŒSouth coast: Palma (the capital), long beaches, nightlifeย

๐Ÿ“ŒEast coast: narrow coves, caves, ruins

๐Ÿ“ŒNorth coast: a little bit of everything

๐Ÿ“ŒInland: farms, sanctuaries

Where to Stay?ย

Cultivating an understanding of Mallorca's geography empowers you to tailor your itinerary to suit your preferences. While the entire coastline offers captivating experiences, the inland regions may not align with every traveler's interests. Consider this geographical breakdown when planning your Mallorcan adventure, ensuring you invest your time where it matters most.

My advice is the followingย

๐Ÿ  Accomodation for day 1, 2 and 3 on the south coast

๐Ÿ  Accomodation for day 4, 5 and 6 on the north coast

๐Ÿ  Accomodation for day 7 and 8 on the west coast

In this comprehensive guide, I've curated excellent accommodation choices catering to various budget ranges, prioritizing budget-friendly options. By booking through this guide, you not only find the perfect accommodation but also support my small business at no extra cost to you. Your support is greatly appreciated!

How to Get Around Mallorca

Plain and simple: you NEED a car! ๐Ÿš—ย

While it's technically possible to rely on public transportation, opting for a rental car is strongly advised. Why? Because it grants you the freedom to explore at your own pace, bypassing logistical hurdles effortlessly.

Here are some trusted rental companies I've personally used and can vouch for:ย

8-Day Detailed Itineraryย

Maximize your time and enjoyment by following the listed itinerary days and activities in chronological order. This ensures the most efficient and rewarding experience during your trip.

Read the comments I added to each place to know what to expect as well as some important information and tips!

Day 1: Palma and Surroundingsย

With all probabilities you will be landing in Palma airport so our journey will start exploring the capital city and its surroundings. If you land later in the day you can also move day one at the very end of your trip.

Royal Palace of La Almudaina
@martaplore
Royal Palace dating back to the 14th century and residence of the King and Queen during their stays in Mallorca. Entry (regular) ticket 7โ‚ฌ. Tickets can be bought online: https://tickets.patrimonionacional.es/es/tickets/palacio-almudaina. Closed on Mondays.
Add to
Details
Catedral-Basรญlica de Santa Marรญa de Mallorca
@martaplore
The cathedral is the landmark of the city. Regular entry tickets cost 10โ‚ฌ and grant you access also to the museum of sacred arts (right next door). Tickets can be bought online to avoid the queue: https://catedraldemallorca.entradasdemuseos.com/
Add to
Details
Parque del Mar
@martaplore
From this park you will get the most beautiful view over the cathedral for free!
Add to
Details

Castell de Bellver
@martaplore
Regular entry ticket: 4โ‚ฌ (no need to pre-book tickets). From the castle you will get a beautiful view over Palma

Details

Cala Comtesa
@martaplore
Beautiful cala at a short drive from Mallorca. The parking is limited so depending on the season in which you are visiting and the time of your arrival you might have to wait for a spot to open up. During high season get there either early morning or lunch time when families start to leave
Add to
Details

Day 2: Southern Beaches

Torrent de Cala Pi
@martaplore
One of the most popular calas in Mallorca. The setting and the water are truly beuatiful and not to be missed! During high season ensure to arrive early to beat the crowds (until 10am it will be half empty)
Add to
Details
Cala Beltrร n
@martaplore
Private cala reachable on foot from Cala Pi. From behind the small houses in Cala Pi take the stairs and follow the path for around 20/25 minutes and you will reach cala Beltrร n. The cala was completely empty when I visited hence a true gem. Ensure to bring water with you to beat the heat.
Add to
Details
Cala Mร rmols
@martaplore
Beautiful cala with clear waters. It can get very crowded suring high season.
Add to
Details
Cala s'Almunia
@martaplore
This cala is small and rocky so not the most comfortable to sunbathe but still worth a visit in my opinion. I recommend taking with you water shoes if you plan to jump in the water from the rocks. Keep in mind that there is a very steep (and long) staircase to descend to reach this cala (and then of course you will have to climb back ;) )
Add to
Details
Calรณ del Moro
@martaplore
This is probably the most popular beach in Mallorca and I say 100% worth a visit! The best way to reach it and enjoy the views is from Cala S'Almunia. Locate the small houses in Cala S'Almunia, right behind there is a path that you simply have to follow until the end. Once you reach Calo des Moros you will be above it and the climb down is a bit tricky so better to wear shoes! If you wish to take more pictures and enjoy the views some more, once you are above the cala proceed on your left and follow another small path that will take you (from above) on the cliff side for some spectacular views of the blue waters
Add to
Details
Ses Salines
@martaplore
Nice village to spend the evening
Add to
Details

Day 3: The South East

Cala Varques
@martaplore
Another beautiful cala with some gorgeous rock formations to explore. This one is a bit less popular than the previous ones!
Add to
Details
Portocolom
@martaplore
You can stop in this village for lunch in one of the many restaurants and bars. I particularly enjoyed the walk around the harbor overlooking the sea
Add to
Details
Cala Mitjana
@martaplore
One of my favorite calas in Mallorca ;) This one is a bit more private than the others (maybe less well known) but a true beuaty I assure you. Reaching the cala is a bit challenging because the parking is quite far (approximately 20 minutes). From the parking the only way is walking first on a remote country street and then in the vegetation for the last part (another 15 minutes). The walk is easy but wearing shoes will make it certainly more pleasent. The cala itself is small and private
Add to
Details
Cala Santanyรญ
@martaplore
This cala is easily accessible and bigger than the others mentioned in this guide which makes it perfect for families. Still the water will not disappoint you ;). Right on the beach you can also find a bar for refreshements and snacks
Add to
Details
Mirador de Es Pontร s
@martaplore
From cala Santanyi you can take a 15/20 minutes walk to this rock formation. There is not much more to see around other than this arch-shaped rock in the sea
Add to
Details
Cala Llombards
@martaplore
Another super popular cala in Mallorca. Here parking can be a true nightmare so once again either arrive early or late afternoon, or be ready to wait! On the beach there is a snack bar but I strongly suggest you to avoid it (pricey, mediocre and crowded), bring your own snacks instead! The best spots to enjoy the beach are the sides, on the rocks
Add to
Details
Port de Cala Figuera
@martaplore
Charming fishermen village that you absolutely must visit. Be aware that you can't swim here so no need to take beach essentials ;)
Add to
Details

Day 4: The North East

Drach Caves
@martaplore
Good activity if you want to take a break from the sun. The tickets are 17โ‚ฌ (online booking, adults) and 18โ‚ฌ on the spot. I did not visit myself but I heard very nice things about this activity
Add to
Details
Esglรฉsia Nova
@martaplore
Cultural stop of your road trip! Beautiful Gothic unfinished church
Add to
Details
Cala Agulla
@martaplore
Wide white sand beach. Perfect for tanning and families. On a windy day expect some waves due to the width of the beach. Cristal clear water and beautiful sceneries. The beach is located in a natural park so in order to park your car you will have to pay 6โ‚ฌ ticket
Add to
Details
Cala Mesquida
@martaplore
Located next to Cala Agulla, similar vibes.
Add to
Details

Day 5: The North

Pollenรงa
@martaplore
Beautiful village to explore. The tour will take you not more than an hour. Don't miss the climb to the church for the best views over the town and the surrounding hills
Add to
Details
Alcudia Old Town
@martaplore
Another lovely village to explore. My favorite activities were the visit to the old cathedral and the walk above the city walls (free). You can stop here for lunch at a typical tapas bar in the center of the town
Add to
Details
Platja de Muro
@martaplore
Huge beach with cristal clear water. Perfect for tanning, families and water sports.
Add to
Details
Mirador de El Colomer
@martaplore
You are headed to the best sunset spot in Mallorca. You can reach the mirador with your car. My advice is to get there at least an hour before sunset because you want to be in a different spot when the sun sets ;)
Add to
Details
Lighthouse of Cap de Formentor
@martaplore
Once you left the mirador you can go to Platja de Formentor and park your car here. Then, catch the bus that will take you to the lighthouse, your sunset spot for the evening ;)
Add to
Details

Day 6: The North West

Sa Calobra
@martaplore
One of the most spectacular beaches in Mallorca. Be careful while driving because the roads are very narrow and make loads of turns.
Add to
Details
Fornalutx
@martaplore
The next hours of your day will be dedicated to exploring the charming villages of western Mallorca. Enjoy the ride through Serra de Tramuntana and reach the first village: Fornalutx
Add to
Details
Sรณller
@martaplore
Second village is Soller where the main activity is to visit the main square with the cathedral and wait for the historical train to pass by :)
Add to
Details
Port de Sรณller
@martaplore
Port the Soller is located in a bay and has a beach if you wish for a quick swim. My personal favorite activity in Port de Soller was climbing to the Museum de la Mar (free entrance) and enjoy the views from the back terrace
Add to
Details

Day 7: Western Villages

Son Marroig
@martaplore
House-museum with increadible views over the Mediterranean sea. Admission ticket 4โ‚ฌ
Add to
Details
Mirador de sa Foradada
@martaplore
Hole in a rock belonging to the UNESCO world heritage. This place is also a great spot to watch the sunset
Add to
Details
Deiร
@martaplore
My favorite village in Mallorca. This place will charm you, no doubts ;). My personal advice is to simply get lost in the streets of Deia and embrace the charm of the village
Add to
Details
Cala Deiร
@martaplore
Small beach located not far from Deia. The place is beautiful but be mindful that it is a small cala, hence it gets full very fast. Parking can be a bit of a nightmare during high season and being a rocky beach it is not the most comfortable to lay down
Add to
Details
Valldemossa
@martaplore
Last village of the day ;)
Add to
Details

Day 8: South West and Goodbye

Banyalbufar
@martaplore
Charming village known for its ancient terraced hillsides
Add to
Details
Torre del Verger
@martaplore
Free to access viewpoint
Add to
Details
Palmanova Beach
@martaplore
Definetly not the most beautiful beach you will see in Mallorca but very well located with respect to the airport. The A11 bus connects the beach directly with the aiport in about 45 minutes and with a journey cost of 5โ‚ฌ. Palmanova is also equipped with toilets and showers for your comfort
