Humboldt Redwoods State Park
@venture4wd
A very nicely maintained fee campground among mature redwood trees. Very beautiful and atmospheric. Costly at $35 per night. No cell service. Enough room for one or two vehicles per site. There are a lot of opportunities for hiking and nature trails. Has running water. Restrooms with quarter popping showers. Picnic tables and fire rings. Might be busy in the warm season. Recommended.

Prescott National Forest

A free campground with picnic tables, fire rings, and vault toilet in Prescott National Forest, nestled among Jefferson Pines. Close to pavement. Enough room for one or two vehicles. No cell service. Beautiful campground and peaceful during my stay. I weathered a rare severe snow storm here and almost couldn't get out due to accumulation. Strongly recommended. This is 20 minutes from Prescott Valley, but is my favorite place to stay near Prescott.

Big Bend Ranch State Park
@venture4wd
A fee campsite in Big Bend Ranch State Park. Very remote off of a long, scenic, primitive road, surrounded by desert and mountains. Has fire ring, picnic table, with rustic shelter. No cell service. Enough room for two vehicles. You might not see another soul during your stay. Tons of adventure and exploration in this beautiful area. Reservations recommended during busy season. Beware summer heat. Site named Rincon 1. Strongly recommended.

North Rim
@venture4wd
Wow! Very remote primitive campsite on BLM land overlooking the Grand Canyon to the east. Very far off grid so carry extra gas food water. Four wheel drive required. Primitive site with stone fire ring, not very flat, with enough room for one or two vehicles. Follow the fence line to access. No cell service. Incredible views flanked by juniper trees and desert scrub offering excellent privacy. Excellent best kept secret!

San Juan Mountains
@venture4wd
A flat spot next to a secluded alpine lake. Better kept secret. High elevation and four wheel drive required. Uneven surface but there is a primitive fire ring. Exquisite scenery in basin surrounded by mountains. Some cell service at edge of basin. Enough room for two or three vehicles. Prepare for wind and colder temperatures. Recommended for scenery.

Greater Yellowstone
@venture4wd
Wow! Idyllic Wyoming landscape in forested basin in Shoshone National Forest. Two track off of dirt road requires four wheel drive. Grassy spot with tree cover next to river. Enough room for two or three vehicles. Primitive stone fire ring. No cell service. Surrounded by cliffs and crystalline river with swimming hole. Stunning. Bear country.

Cape Lookout National Seashore
@venture4wd
This is a primitive stretch of beach protected by the National Park Service, and is an excellent spot for beach camping and coastal exploration. It is only accessible by ferry, and subject to severe weather, especially silly during hurricane season. So keep a close eye on the weather forecast and go prepared! Spotty cell service. There are washrooms and an air station up the coast. A great place to spend some time on the beach during the warmer seasons!
