I know, I know, sacrilege. But sometimes a lady needs a little taste of something from outside the peninsula. Bonus points for HEAT!

Alma Latina cucina messicana senza glutine
@utopiaitalia
Tasty chips and salsa (especially chipotle!). DECENT MARGARITA (v rare in Italy). Bowls were nothing to write home about, but eager to try the tacos. Perfectly serviceable Mexican to scratch that itch.

Rock Burger® San Salvario
@utopiaitalia
Look, let’s address the elephant in the room. Most European burgers are not anything close to American burgers and don’t even approach the deliciousness. I’ve yet to find a good greasy dive burger equivalent, but Rock Burger is a good take on an overwhelmingly huge American burger. I’m coming back for the insanely hot sauces on the Black Sabbath burger. Satan level was no joke, which was a pleasant surprise!

Café BLOOM
@utopiaitalia
While not precisely foreign food, this IS the best US style brunch I’ve had in Italy. I’m talkin bagel sammies, eggs, pancakes… they stared blankly when I asked about mimosas, but I ordered OJ and Prosecco and it was FINE.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Ashlinn Romagnoli
I created Utopia Italia to document my experiences moving to Italy with almost zero preparation or expectation.
A couple of enthusiastic explorers, my husband and I love diving into new places and meeting new people. We are particularly passionate about fostering community and take great pleasure in ensuring our friends feel cared for and well fed. Sharing with a broader audience felt like a natural next step, and thatch is a far sight better than the google docs we used to share around for visiting friends!
The project began as essays and podcasts called Utopia: An Italian Study that you can sign up for (for free!) at utopiaitalia.substack.com.
You can also check out the Instagram @utopiaitalia for photos and updates: this is the nexus for the entire Utopia Italia project!
