Facts about Canggu

Before we start our food tour, we want to give you a short overview over the area of Canggu, since it has much more to offer than only food;

For a lot of digital nomads and influencers Canggu is "the place to be", as well as for  surfers and yoga enthusiast, because Canggu is the westernmost region of Bali - but much more fancy when it comes to cafes and restaurants. And although it is still very cheap, Canggu is one of the most expensive regions of the island. Nevertheless: if you love good food, long (black!) beaches and party, Canggu is the area to go. But now let's start our food tour! Hopefully you´ll get hungry!

1. Breakfast & Brunch

Crate Cafe
@amelieclemens
Crate Cafe is one of Bali's cafes which went viral on Instagram. If you like big portions, beautiful decorated food, filled with nutrition, you shound definitley givt this one a try. Most of thee dishes are desighned for a filling brunch,The cafe is located on one of Canggu's big streets and not possible to fail. Since it's really popular, you should try to avoid the rushhour from 11-12. REMINDER: Even though we really enjoyed our meals everytime we went to Crate Cafe, we always saw lots of people ordering way to much food and ceded most of it. Please keep in mind, that the employees put a lot of effort in every meal, so show them some respect and only order as much as you can eat, and not only for the picture! Opening hours: 6-17 everyday

This cafe is the one with the most special location (in our eyes at least). Besides the amazing coffee and baked goods, the highlight definitely is the aquarium, which serves as a ceiling in the entrance area. Opening hours: 7-17 everyday

2. Lunch & Dinner

La Pan Nam Warung & Bar
@amelieclemens
This one is ar really special cafe for us because we went there several times with our friends after the surf sessions. Since they have an amazing variety of both western and asian food, everybody will find something to satisfy the craving. Another really special thing about La Pa Nam is the size of their food and also milkshakes, so do yourself a favor and try it out! Opening hours: 6.30-22.30 everyday

Warung Local
@amelieclemens
One of the most hyped warungs in all of Bali, definitely must be Warung Local. Even though we have never been there in person, we only heard the best of it. You can either order your meal by card or, like originally, asemble your plate by choosing different dishes from the food counter, so that you can try lots of different things. What we really appriciate about Warung Local, is the fact, that they do not waste any food; if there are any leftovers, they either will give it to their customers cheaper or to somebody who feeds his pigs with it, as crazy as i sounds! Opening hours: 10-22 everyday

Tiga
@amelieclemens
Tiga was the first warung we went to. Like the „Warung Local“, it offers you a large variety of food from which you can choose different dishes. We can highly recommend their tofu! Another amazing thing about Tiga is their „all day breaky“ offer! Opening hours: 7-22 everyday

Varuna Warung
@amelieclemens
Even though we haven´t been to Varuna Warung ourselves, we only heard the best, especially for the cheap prices. Their veggie options are supposed to be super delicious as well. Recommendation of our friend Vivi who lives in Canggu: try Varuna´s tofu dishes, they are the best. Opening hours: 8-20 everyday

Times Beach Warung
@amelieclemens
If you want to enjoy delicious local or western food on the beach, just like you would imagine in Bali, then Warung Times is the place for you. And the amazing thing is: you can enjoy breakfast , lunch, dinner and drinks there, so it´s perfect for the coffee after your morning surf, for taking a snack or proper meal, and even enjoy a drink with your feet in the sand while whatching the sunset for a fair price, even tough the western food may be a bit more expensive than the local food. Opening hours: 6-22 everyday

La Baracca
@amelieclemens
Even though Mie and Nasi Goreng are super delicious and you should definitely try it at least once, La Baracca offers you an amazing change from the Indonesian food to Italian cuisine.Compared to Warungs, it may be a bit more pricey, but the pizza and pasta are just super yummy and they serve you free bread and olive oil as an entree which is never a bad thing to start your lunch or dinner with. Another unique thing abou La Baracca are their written walls. So if you want you can leave a message and eternalise yourself there. Opening hours: all day

ZIN Cafe was the first western restaurant we went to -a great choice! We loved the atmosphere there and their delicious dishes and snacks which the staff serves very lovingly . It´s a perfect spots for working, since they offer free Wifi as well as sockets under every table. We would highly recommend their chicken burger and chia pudding. Opening hours: 7-22 everyday

3. Cocktails and Drinks

Sol Rooftop Bali
@amelieclemens
Sol Rooftop is especially known for its cozy atmosphere and amazing location, from which you can enjoy the sunset with a cocktail. If you´d like to enjoy a little cooling, you can easily find it in the pool, and small snacks are also provided for the drink. Opening hours: 8-23 everyday

La Brisa Bali
@amelieclemens
Maybe you´ve seen this one on Instagram already: La Brisa is not only an amazing place for party and drinks/food with its location near the beach which includes a large pool with a good view right to the sea, but also a great spot to watch the surfers during the day. It`s one of the bigger clubs in Canggu. Therefore it can get a little busy at night and food is a bit pricey as well compared to most warungs in Canggu. Keep in mind its weekendmarket as well where you can find cute little souvenirs to take with you afterwards. Opening hours: 10-23 everyday

Finns Beach Club
@amelieclemens
If you see big spotlights over Canggu at night, they are almost certainly from Finns Beach Club. Like La Brisa, it is one of the largest beach clubs in Canggu and is therefore well attended. In addition to the large pool right on the beach, as well as food and drinks, you can enjoy a nice evening with partying and people in a good mood. Since Finns is a western styled beach club, be aware of the prices of food and drinks. Opening hours: 10-00 everyday

4. Supermarkets

Pepito Market Eco Beach
@amelieclemens
If you are looking for a western structured supermarket, Pepito got you covered. Especially if you want to get bread, fresh fruit, veggies or dairy products like cheese or yoghurt, Pepito is the best choice, since none of those things is typical for Bali or Indonesia, and not so easy to find in the local supermarkets, except of the fruit and veggies of course which most balinese people buy on their food markets, and therefore not offered in the supermarkets. comparable to Pepito is the Frestive where you can find all these things as well. Opening hours Pepito: 7-0 everyday Frestive: 7-23 everyday (located opposite Pepito)

Indomaret Canggu
@amelieclemens
If you are looking for an authentic supermarket in Bali, you will quickly come across an Indomarket or Mini Market. They usually offer basic household products and the most necessary groceries. We mostly bought juices and snacks, but fruit, vegetables and yogurt are rarely available there. On the other hand, the prices of the products offered are also significantly cheaper than those of Pepito and Co. Opening hours: varies by store
