Solo in Taipei for 4 Days ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ผ

Sing Ye
Last November, I went on a short solo trip to Taipei to catch a concert. 4 days feels neither too short nor too long. Most people wouldn't spend 4 whole days in just Taipei alone but there is so much to explore in this colourful city! If you have already been to Taipei a few times and are bored of the usual Imperial Palace and all, try out these off the beaten path finds. You can use this guide as part of a longer trip or fast and furious if you're tight on time like me.

Accomodation

Cho Hotel
@singye
I booked this hotel last-minute after my original accomodation had to be cancelled. It turned out to be one of the best decisions of this trip. This is such a charming hotel with vintage vibes and generous freebies. Level 2 is a photogenic social area with games, books, a projector and a fully-stocked pantry of local snacks and drinks. On days when you're too hungry and tired to go out for dinner, you can just grab some instant noodles and eat it in your room in peace. If you want a peaceful place to drink your coffee in the morning, choose one of the comfy velvet sofa chairs by the window. I really enjoyed the social area. Bonus: there is a cute cat that shows up at the balcony once in a while ๐Ÿฑ

Day 1

ๅคงไธ‰ๅ…ƒ่ฑ†ๆผฟๅบ—
@singye
This is the most comforting breakfast you can have at 6am after a long day of travelling. This hole-in-the-wall breakfast shop sells fresh savoury doujiang (bean curd), danbing (egg pancakes), jiucaihe (chive dumplings) and more. I ordered a savoury doujiang and jiucaihe. The portions were more generous than I expected and I struggled to finish them. Luckily, they provide condiments like chilli oil, chili sauce, vinegar, soy sauce and more to accompany your meal. There is no dine-in duration limit and most patrons order take-out at this 4-seat establishment. Perfect for solo-travellers! I would advise to try and reach before 8.30am. Even on a weekday, I overheard that people in the queue after me had to wait up to 20 minutes.

Day 2

Taipei Cinema Park
@singye
If you're an early bird like me and you're wide awake before any shops open, you would enjoy a nice quiet walk through this park. A nice place to chill or take an OOTD against the graffiti art.

Walk through the wet market to see this horseshoe-shaped building in the middle of it all. This building hosts history of Taiwan's market culture during the japan occupation as well as a picture-worthy cafe.

This is my favourite cafe in the whole world. I went early on a weekday and it was completely empty. The cafe is spacious and has charging ports, a perfect place to recharge yourself and your devices. Browse an old book over a coffee and a hearty meal. I ordered the beef stew and spent my afternoon there reading a book, writing a letter and filling up my planner. A perfect afternoon.

This is a shop selling art materials and tools at a good price. It has a unique exterior and an interior that brings you back in time. I bought a unique made-in-Italy 6-pronged (?) offset spatula for my dad.

Sunny Hills Taipei Minsheng Park Store
@singye
This is a nice spot to rest your feet over a (free!) cup of tea and a pineapple tart. You don't have to make a purchase but the snacks sold here would make good souvenirs and gifts. Each box comes with a cute fabric bag.

Raohe Night Market

Pepper buns. Sausage in a sausage. If you're spoiled for choice here at this night market, these are the 2 items you cannot pass. They would keep well for breakfast the next day too.

Rainbow Bridge
@singye
If the weather is good, take a walk to the Rainbow Bridge nearby. It's a pretty sight to see while digesting your spoils from the Raohe Night Market. If you feel up for it, head back to the night market for a second round.

Everywhere Burger Club
@singye
Perfect place for a solo traveller. The usual wait time is 30 minutes but I got a seat right away at the counter. I ordered the walnut bacon peanut butter burger and it hit the spot. This old-school diner is popular among the locals so try to go at an off-peak timing.

Another spot popular with the locals. Try not to come during the weekends or be prepared to wait (leave your number on the waiting list and you will recieve a call when there's a seat ready). This spot closes at 8pm, pretty late for a cafe. The cafe has a different mysterious charm at night. I ordered the sesame latte and the flan. Do note that the minimum order is one beverage (I wanted to just order the flan but that's not allowed).
