Discovering Piemonte
A Bit of Geography
Piemonte is a region located in the northwest of Italy and is renowned as one of the country’s most prestigious and diverse wine regions. You might know its famous Barolo and Barberesco, often referred to as the King and Queen of wine and some of my personal favourites. Here are the five key wine-producing areas you should know when visiting the region and where you might want to venture off to for some wine tastings and visits.
1. Le Langhe
Le Langhe is characterized by its rolling hills and a mix of clay, limestone, and sandstone soils. This diverse terroir plays a crucial role in the distinctiveness of its wines.
Famous wines:
Barolo "the king of wines": A bold, powerful red wine made from Nebbiolo grapes, known for its longevity and complex aromas of roses, and truffles.
Barbaresco " the queen of wines": Made from Nebbiolo as well, but typically lighter and more approachable in its youth compared to Barolo.
2. Roero
