Singapore
What we did in Singapore
We spent around 6 days exploring Singapore during our honeymoon. This was spread over two trips, part one on the way out to the South Pacific, and part two on the way back home.
We had an amazing time and would love to go back and see more.
The MRT is really great at transporting you around the city, and you can use your contactless card to pay for tickets (like the underground in London).
These are the main places we explored:
Trip One: Arrival day (afternoon/evening)
Chinatown - Peoples Park Food Centre for dinner. We had the Laksa and it was AMAZING.
MBS and the Gardens by the Bay light show.
Day Two
Daytime: Universal Studios
Evening: Newton Food Centre & Orchard Road
Day Three
Daytime: Gardens by the Bay - Flower Dome and Cloud Forest.
Evening: Chinatown and then we went to an arcade!
Day Four
Daytime: Cable Car to Mount Faber and explored Mount Faber Park (amazing views!)
Evening: Flew to Fiji!
Trip Two: Arrival Day (evening)
Checked in to our hotel and went for some food nearby.
Day Two
Morning: Raffles Hotel, Kampong Glam (Arab Street), Little India
Afternoon: ArtScience Museum
Evening: Gardens by the Bay light show.
Day Three:
Morning: Riverwalk from MBS to Fort Canning Park.
Afternoon: Chinatown (Peoples Park Food Centre, shopping, and the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple)
Evening: Flew home!
Fiji
What we did in Fiji
The Fijian people really did steal a piece of my heart - they are SO welcoming and kind; and they sing and play music almost everywhere you go!
We spent around two weeks of our trip in Fiji, part one was spent near Nadi, where we went on trips, and part two was spent on an island resort in the Mamanuca Islands!
In Fiji they have a traditional drink called Kava - the way they describe it is, 'not alcohol'. It's like a kinda bitter, earthy drink which makes you feel a little drunk! There are traditions on how you should drink it so it's worth doing a bit of research before you have it.
The one thing I felt we really missed out on in Fiji is not organising a day 'tour', where you're driven around by a local for the day and they take you to lots of amazing spots on the island. We did this in Bali in 2022, and when we went on to Samoa. It's such a great way to see more of a country and learn along the way!
Here's some of what we did:
Part One: Arrival Day
Checked into our hotel and went to Port Denarau for dinner.
Day Two
Went on a trip to Cloud 9, a beautiful floating bar/restaurant in the Mamanuca Islands.
Day Three
Went to the Fiji Cultural Village. This is set-up to look like a traditional village, and they teach you in all their traditional ways.
Wondered through Nadi including the Sri Siva Subramaniya Temple.
Day Four
Went zip-lining and on a mini-trek through the jungle to a waterfall!
Day Five
Beach time / chill day before our flight in the evening.
Part Two: Tokoriki Island
Staying on an island resort was one of my favourite parts of the entire trip. The incredible sunsets, the view, the feeling of remoteness, it was honestly amazing, and the landscape was absolutely stunning!
Samoa & American Samoa
What we did in Samoa & American Samoa
NB: I've written a separate guide detailing how to do a day trip to American Samoa, check this out for more information!
I'm so glad we saw more of the pacific beyond Fiji, the three islands we visited were so different!
Like Fiji, the Samoas also have a traditional drink like Kava, their's is called ''Ava'. I discovered that apparently this is common across the pacific islands, and each drink is slightly different, some stronger than others!
Arrival Day
We arrived very late at night/early in the morning, so went straight to sleep! We then woke up and spent a lovely day relaxing on the beach.
Day Two
A 15-minute walk from the hotel a rugby tournament was going on, so we walked down to the next village to spectate for the morning! In the afternoon, back to the resort for more chill time (and some golf!).
Day Three
As the Samoans are very religious, we decided to accept the invitation to go along to a church service, there was lots of singing and it was lovely to be involved in their community. In the afternoon we relaxed by the beach and went rock pooling!
Day Four
Today we explored the capital city of Samoa, Apia! The most exciting part? The local buses - they're incredibly colourful! In the evening we had a beautiful candle-lit dinner on the beach, very romantic!
Day Five
One of my favourite days - we went on a trip around the east part of the island of Upolu - we saw amazing views and breathtaking waterfalls - totally awe inspiring!
Day Six - American Samoa!
This was also one of my favourite days - we went on a day trip to American Samoa. The main thing I wanted to see was the National Park, and not only did we have it all to ourselves, the view was magnificent!
Day Seven
Today we went on a trip to Samoa's big island, Savai'i. This trip was 'okay', there were two things we saw which were really cool - the lava fields and the blow holes, but honestly, I wouldn't recommend it unless maybe you stay a couple of nights. The ferry was VERY long, it took about 1hr30, so doing that both ways, plus the drive from the resort, meant that we actually didn't have that long on Savai'i, so we didn't see very much.
I've heard there are giant clams in Upolu, in hindsight, I would have much preferred to see those.
Day Eight
A very early morning flight, back to Fiji!
