Context:
I am a foodie.
But I think we need different categories for this label because I am a very specific type of foodie.
For one, CARBS are my priority. I am plant-based (so meat/seafood) is not my thing. But give me all the pizza, pasta, bread, and pastries please!
Two, I prioritize LOCAL businesses with QUALITY food over chain businesses and restaurants only known for aesthetically pleasing atmospheres.
Third, I lean toward the "hole-in-the-wall", "mom-and-pop" kind of places over Michelin-star fancy restaurants.
At the end of the day, my recommendations for food spots will be based on the FOOD and its overall value instead of other factors like aesthetics, customer service, and restaurant atmosphere.
If you're still with me, we should be foodie friends :)
Feel free to message me on Insta to grab a bite to eat sometime:
Now let's get into my master list of my FAVORITE FOOD SPOTS IN MADRID!
Restaurants:
Baldoria Madrid | RESTAURANTE ITALIANO
@gottacaseofwanderlust
This is THE best Neapolitan pizza spot in the city. The ingredients are fresh and the crust is chewy and airy at the same time. Makes for a good date spot.
This place was also ranked as #64 on the Top 100 Pizza Spots in the world. It is 1 of only 3 spots in Spain that made the list.

Souksou - Couscous Bar
@gottacaseofwanderlust
A delightful small Moroccan place in the culturally rich neighborhood of Lavapies.
The couscous is SO GOOD here. And the owners are very nice people too :)
I enjoyed dining here solo for lunch but this place is also an intimate option at night with a friend/date.

喜大大 砂锅板面 Restaurante Xidada
@gottacaseofwanderlust
Good East Asian food is hard to find in Spain, even a city as diverse as Madrid.
Trust me THIS PLACE IS AN EXCEPTION.
Located in Usera, Madrid's unofficial "Chinatown", this place serves incredible Chinese hand-pulled noodle dishes that are actually spicy (also rare to find in Madrid lol)!
Details
Villaroy's
@gottacaseofwanderlust
This takeout only spot serves the best tortilla española and torrijas I've had in Madrid.
Order online and pick-up in store.

La Capricciosa Italiana
@gottacaseofwanderlust
Check out this inviting, casual Italian place for their fantastic menú-del-día --- which includes an appetizer, pasta or pizza, dessert and coffee for under 20 euros.

Some of the best pastries in all of Spain if I'm not mistaken.
You NEED to come here to believe.

Clan Obrador Artesano
@gottacaseofwanderlust
France-approved baguettes. Soft on the inside with a nice crunchy, yet chewy sourdough crust.
Also a great selection of other French pastries... I enjoyed the almond sugar twist.
Details
Vanille Bakery Lab & Café
@gottacaseofwanderlust
High-quality breads, pastries, and other desserts.
I loved their sourdough loaf !!
They have 2 locations in the city.

Natas D'Ouro - Madrid
@gottacaseofwanderlust
Now you don't have to go to Portugal for your egg tart fix as these were as good as the pasteis de natas I've had in Lisbon, Portugal !
A variety of interesting flavors to choose from --- like orange, lemon, or port wine.
Details
Obrador San Francisco
@gottacaseofwanderlust
Top-quality sourdough breads, cinnamon rolls, cookies, milk buns... definitely would recommend.
Get here early.

Panifiesto Lavapiés
@gottacaseofwanderlust
Bread is the only thing sold at this bakery --- which means they really specialize in making the perfect loaf.
This is truly some of the best bread you'll find in Madrid.
I got here about an hour after they opened and this was the only bakery I've been to in the city where I was given warm bread, with yet a crusty exterior.
Heaven.
