I prefer a loose itinerary and remain open to what each day brings. My favorite things to do and see as I travel are... - EAT - Try whatever is local. Order the special of the day. Talk with the restaurant staff. - WALK - It encourages me to slow down, notice, and get a feel for community. - HIKE - I'm a lazy hiker. By "hike," I mean a few hours at a slow pace. - MUSEUMS - Spend an afternoon. Read the descriptions on exhibits. Talk with the docents. Buy something in the giftshop. - CHURCHES - I'm fascinated by the various ways people have worshipped the God of the Bible over centuries and across borders. Many older churches are also museums or tourist-friendly spaces. Some additionally hold regular liturgical services. - CASTLES - Castles, fortresses, palaces, big ol' houses: these places transport me back in time. My ideal day in a new city involves wandering the streets of a new neighborhood to get a feel for its energy, ducking into an art gallery or museum to see something inspiring, and then stopping for an afternoon coffee and chocolate chip cookie. At night, you'll more likely find me in a cocktail bar than a club. I also love to hike, camp, and be near the ocean! I lived for 8 years in San Francisco, and spent extended time in Lima, Peru and Mombasa, Kenya. About 4 years ago I got the travel itch. This is around the same time that my friends started getting married, having kids, buying homes, and just all around acting like adults. In a time where everyone was intent on settling down I was intent on having a trip booked every 3 months. I have planned solo trips and planned trips for myself and friends. I believe there is a difference in a trip and a vacation, so it’s most important to me for the client to know which they would prefer. When I travel internationally I try to make the most of my time, so most of my guides will be more “trip” based. This includes traveling to different parts of a country and making the most of the time to see and experience new things. I am open to more leisurely vacations guides and would have no problem helping you make a guide that fits your wants. There’s nothing more satisfying than finally getting the trip plan written down, well maybe except getting off the plane at your final destination.
