Hi, I'm Jaya. I backpack full time around the world, always on a carefully curated budget. Somehow, I end up with loads of free accommodation, in rural areas of countries with locals, at festivals with a free wristband or travelling an entire country in a van for next to nothing. How I get through most of my trips is a shock to even me, but I always pull through with some of the most amazing experiences. I've been trying to figure out how I can best help others begin their travel journey, spend less or have a smoother ride. Thatch fell right in my lap and I couldn't be more thrilled to test this out! I want to be available for personally curated travel advice, for trip tips / guides to cities you've never been. If you need budget help I'm all over crunching numbers (weirdo, I know). I just have so many conversations with friends in my orbit, and I know in my heart I can help some others out there. Some highlights of my trips I'd love to share tips on; I flew from Australia to Europe for $360aud. I travelled in a van from north to south Portugal for $300aud for a whole week. I've volunteered in rural Indonesia teaching a muslim community English, I donated $90aud and I had free accommodation, transport and food for the entire 10 day stay. I managed to get 7 weeks free accommodation across a European Summer one year & saved thousands of dollars. I also want to mention, I'm a massive advocate for dining out, good coffee and good wine. I'm not much of a shopper, but will buy something if my wardrobe wouldn't survive without it (vintage, yes please!) I do travel very light with a 30L backpack that covered me for 5 months straight, & I still haven't seen the brand go viral yet? Everything I've learnt feels far too good to gate keep. So here I am ready to put it all on the table just for you.

Don't get me wrong, every now and then I like to do the touristy things or take a vacation just to relax but my specialty is finding ways to experience the culture without feeling like a tourist. About 4 years ago I got the travel itch. This is around the same time that my friends started getting married, having kids, buying homes, and just all around acting like adults. In a time where everyone was intent on settling down I was intent on having a trip booked every 3 months. I have planned solo trips and planned trips for myself and friends. I believe there is a difference in a trip and a vacation, so it’s most important to me for the client to know which they would prefer. When I travel internationally I try to make the most of my time, so most of my guides will be more “trip” based. This includes traveling to different parts of a country and making the most of the time to see and experience new things. I am open to more leisurely vacations guides and would have no problem helping you make a guide that fits your wants. There’s nothing more satisfying than finally getting the trip plan written down, well maybe except getting off the plane at your final destination. I believe in doing the must do things in the places you must do them. If you are going to someplace new, you never k now when you will be back there again, so you might as well do everything possible to elevate your experience.

During the last 7 years I have been traveling around the world and trying to find my way to live traveling. The first 3 years I hitchhiked around South America discovering my own country Peru and visiting Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, Colombia and Ecuador. After South America, 4 years ago I started my travels in Europe and Africa. I have been in Spain, France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Hungary, Slovakia, Croatia, Albania, Bulgaria, Greece, Macedonia, UK, Turkey, Poland and Morocco. I travel slow, I like to just get inmerse into a daily life as a local so I am the kind of nomad that spend months in one country or city or decide to move for a while in a new country and come back many times and see how a place has changed, how new people and new times in life can bring me new experiences in the same place. I volunteer while traveling mainly in hostels, I also use couchsurfing hosting or as a guest, sometimes wildcamping, sometimes I travel hitchiking, sometimes renting a car or with plane, train or buses. Since 2022, that place has been Portugal (and the Azores Islands), where I have travelled at every opportunity I get - six times thus far. I have explored a different location/aspect/travel modality each time. From taking trains to get around the country, to renting a manual transmission car and getting stuck in the summer heat on an uphill off-the-map backroad of a vineyard in the Douro, to cycling from Lisbon to Sintra on three broken gears - I've done it all.
