Porto is a beautiful city in the north of Portugal: also called “the capital of the North”. It is a true feast for the eyes, a city capable of conquering you from the first moment, thanks to its narrow streets, its decadent houses but with a magical atmosphere. Porto is a small city, but welcoming, cheap and quite safe. Even just two days are enough to visit it and it is therefore the ideal destination for a weekend away from the most tourist routes. it is a city that simply cannot be missing from the list of places to see at least once in a lifetime! You know the exercise of planning what to visit in a city by searching online "what to do in XXXX" and opening 10 tabs in an attempt not to let anything escape? And then not fully understanding what were the most relevant things for your kind of traveller? Well, I've been there multiple times!!! That's why I though that, as a local in Lisboa who has explored everything this city has to offer, I can make things easy for someone planning to visit it by creating a single source of information with all that. 86 places split into categories to make navigation and priorization easy: 1. Lisboa-exclusive places you must go to (3 tiers according to relevance) 2. Places around Lisboa you should visit (includes Sintra, Almada and Mafra) 3. Hidden gems (again 3 tiers according to relevance) 4. Old trams / Elevators / Funiculairs (you can be a fan and go around all of them or simply pick the best ones, which I refer) 5. Viewpoints (again, either go to all of them or just my top picks) 6. Things you can do around the world and here are nice as well On top of that you've got the ultimate Portuguese food checklist with 45 things you shoult try and whithout which your trip will be incomplete (90% of them can be found in Lisboa) My main objective with this guide is not to go into detail about each of these attractions but rather to categorize and give some hints about it so you decide whether to put it on your plan or not. If it is a monument or museum requiring a deep explanation of the hitory around it, you'll find it there. The Greek hidden gem Corfu, known as Kerkyra in Greek, is a stunning island located in the Ionian Sea off the northwest coast of Greece. Its rich history dates back to ancient times, with influences from various cultures including the Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Venetians, French, and British. This diverse cultural heritage is reflected in the island's architecture, cuisine, and traditions, making Corfu a unique destination in the Mediterranean. The island's capital, Corfu Town, is a UNESCO World Heritage site, renowned for its elegant Venetian architecture, narrow cobblestone streets, and historic landmarks. The Old Fortress and the New Fortress are prominent features, offering panoramic views of the town and the sea. Corfu Town also boasts numerous museums, such as the Archaeological Museum and the Museum of Asian Art, which showcase the island's rich history and cultural connections. Corfu's natural beauty is another major draw for visitors. The island is known for its lush green landscapes, olive groves, and stunning beaches with crystal-clear waters. Some of the most popular beaches include Paleokastritsa, Glyfada, and Sidari, each offering a unique charm and a range of activities from sunbathing to water sports. In addition to its natural and architectural beauty, Corfu has a vibrant cultural scene. The island hosts various festivals and events throughout the year, celebrating everything from music and dance to religious traditions. The Corfu Easter celebrations are particularly famous, featuring processions, music, and the unique custom of "botides," where clay pots are thrown from balconies to mark the resurrection of Christ. This blend of tradition and festivity provides a lively atmosphere for both locals and tourists. Corfu's cuisine is another highlight, influenced by its multicultural history. Traditional dishes often feature fresh seafood, locally grown vegetables, and olive oil. Some local specialties include "pastitsada" (a spicy meat stew with pasta), "sofrito" (veal in white wine and garlic sauce), and "bourdeto" (a spicy fish stew). The island's vineyards produce notable wines, and local olive oil is highly prized. Dining in Corfu offers a delightful exploration of flavours and culinary traditions, making it a paradise for food enthusiasts. Accommodation is an important decision to make prior to planning your route but our firm suggestion is to stay somewhere in the northern part of the island. We chose to stay in Pyramid City Appartments - a budget friendly accommodation is the North-East side with great views to the Albanian coast but very poor connections. The roads can get very narrow in this side of the isle therefore if you're not comfortable driving in other countries and with rental cars you're better off staying near Paleokastritsa with very good connections but less relax.

Get to know Porto, the second biggest city in Portugal, and one of the oldest and most important in the history of this secular European nation. Full of intricate narrow streets, breathtaking viewpoints from sunrise to sunset, incredible food and a hospitable people, Porto is truly one of the best city escapes in Europe. Valletta is one of my favorite places to visit. It has history, charm, and lots of colorful doors. Best of all it has lots of good establishments scattered around the city and I've hand picked the best ones for you! (Bonus: lots of them even have a charming 'hole in the wall' vibe. ✨)
