If you're visiting Venice, Italy save this culinary guide on what and where you should be eating. Venetian cuisine is quite unique, and the city itself doesn't always get the best rep, but that's because it's easy to fall for the tourist traps if you don't know where to go and what to order. Enjoy this guide to learn what are the typical dishes to try, and 17 restaurants/bakeries/bars to try them at. I've also included my full guide on "cicchetti" (Venetian tapas), and 24 restaurant/bars where to eat them.

This is a map of all the places I went to on my 3 month backpacking trip.
We flew into Bangkok then island hopped in south Thailand for 2 weeks before flying up to Chiang Mai to explore north Thailand for 2 weeks. Next stop was northern Laos for just over 2 weeks where we got the slow boat from Thailand to Luang Prabang. After Laos was an overnight bus to Hanoi in northern Vietnam where we worked our way down to the south over 3 weeks. Finally finishing in Cambodia for 3 weeks and then bus back to Bangkok to fly home.
This map includes recommendations of things to do, places to stay and restaurant recommendations too.
I have added in information about the visas, currency, how to get around and important tips and tricks we learnt along the way.
You can fit in a lot less than you think when backpacking so this is a realistic map of what is achievable in 3 months.
You are more than welcome to ask me any questions, my instagram is @takeme.travelling

Psst: I'm not Norweigan, nor do I live in Bergen. BUT, I scoured the internet, TikTok, Atlas Obscura, Viator, ChatGPT, brochures, etc. to thoroughly plan this trip, not to mention asked our local Fjord tour guide for his personal recs.
I've done (nearly) everything suggested on this itinerary for Days 1-3. Days 4-6 are suggestions based on my research/time I wish I had! *Some day trip suggestions may require a car.
🌱I travel with sustainability in mind. Bergen (and Norway) is a super green destination! You can do electric, zero emissions Fjord cruises (see my tour rec!), there are electric city buses, most cars are electric, and there’s simple transport by tram from the airport into the city. Norway’s incredible nature is one of the main draws, with lots of low-carbon activities to do like hiking and kayaking. Plus, the beauty of the majestic Fjords will blow you away and remind you how incredible our planet is 💚
This trip was planned for a group of 4 friends (2 couples) traveling together, without a car. Our intentions were to explore Bergen and the surrounding areas, spend time visiting with each other, and not break the bank (while not foregoing iconic experiences).

It's a city full of history and monuments, with all buildings being ancient, many left to the elements and ruined, but still beautiful. There's a castle, a river, a stunning parliament, and many unique bridges; there are many more places to eat well and uniquely than in Milan, it's inexpensive, and everything is accessible on foot, or at most with some means of transportation, which work very well. In short, yes, it's worth visiting!

Paraty is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, nestled in Brazil's stunning Costa Verde. This charming colonial town boasts cobblestone streets, colorful buildings, and lush tropical surroundings - and it's my favorite town in Rio de Janeiro.
In the late 17th century, Paraty marked the endpoint of the Gold Route, through which gold was shipped to Europe. Its port was crucial for importing tools and African slaves for the mines. The town built a defense system to protect its wealth.
Today, Paraty's historic center preserves its 18th-century layout and colonial architecture, offering a glimpse into its rich past spanning the 18th and early 19th centuries.
With its rich history, vibrant culture, and picturesque coastline, Paraty offers visitors a unique blend of historical exploration, outdoor adventure, and relaxation by the sea.
Explore its well-preserved architecture, embark on boat tours to nearby islands, or simply unwind on its pristine beaches – Paraty promises a memorable experience for all.
In this guide, you'll find recommendations to fill up at least 4 days of your visit, including logistics, accommodations, dining, and of course, you can contact me if you need a personalized itinerary
Have fun!
