There are secret islands in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean. Nine of them, actually. The Azores are an autonomous region of Portugal, even though they're nearly 900 miles off the coast of Lisbon. Mount Pico, on the island of Pico, is actually the highest point in the European country. The volcanic archipelago is covered with farmland. Small fishing communities line the coasts. Travelers were first introduced to the remote islands when they became a refueling stop for flights between Europe and North America. Direct flights from Boston and New York eventually followed.
The Azores are finally being discovered by North Americans without Portuguese heritage. It's about time. Ponta Delgada, the little capital, mixes historic buildings with modern hotels and restaurants. São Miguel, the main island, is full of hiking trails and hot springs. Pico Island is famous for its wine. While seven other islands are just waiting to be explored. With mild climate, thanks to the jet stream, the Azores are a year-round destination. Go before the secret gets out.

This is a mini guide to Sintra, Portugal. I HIGHLY recommend spending a night or even two in Sintra instead of just passing through on a day trip.
Sintra, Portugal is a magical place. It is the town where royalty spent their summers, and it shows! The fact that it is just about 45 minutes from Lisbon makes it even better, it is so easily accessible. I have been to Sintra twice and I still haven’t seen it all. The first time I went, it was just a for day trip and just wished I had more time. The second time, we stayed overnight and I still found myself wishing I had more time! I would advise spending a night or even a weekend in Sintra.
The town of Sintra itself is charming and easy to walk around and enjoy. During my first time there, I didn’t even get to explore the town because we got off the train, grabbed lunch, and immediately started walking up to the Pena Palace. It was like a tease to only be able to explore a small portion of this gorgeous city, so for my second visit to Sintra, I didn’t make that same mistake. We enjoyed spending our time walking around and checking out all of the pastry shops, little bars, cute stores, and restaurants.
In this guide you'll find all of my favorite spots, as well as where to stay, what to do, and what I STILL think I would do if I visit again!

I believe one of the best ways to experience a European city is by reaching its highest vantage point for a panoramic view! Sometimes you see rolling skylines, sometimes grand axes or meticulously planned districts, all reflecting deep history.
However, when you climb to a city's most famous tower, you often lose a key focal point in your overlook. That’s why I’ve discovered many hidden overlook spots that won’t disrupt your perfect skyline photos or videos. Stay tuned and I'll update this guide through time!
BE AWARE: this is a themed map spanning multiple cities or regions, but it doesn’t provide point-to-point navigation for a single trip. So, unless you’re particularly interested in this topic, please consider purchasing with caution!
But if you still have bought it, thanks and please: save and always check on this map and visit any of the towers and castles when you are nearby. And I also add small notes for each place so you can quickly find what I like about this place.
Enjoy viewing!

Planning a trip to Marrakesh? Known as the "Red City" for the hue of its historic buildings and walls, Marrakesh is a hub of culture and tradition, where modernity and ancient customs blend.
The medina is a winding maze of streets filled with the hustle and bustle of motorcycles, donkeys and vendors. For this reason, I ALWAYS recommend travelers to book at least a couple of guided excursions, at least so that they can get their bearings.
I've had so many friends (who are avid travelers themselves) take the same approach with seeing Morocco as they do with Lisbon; arrive and see what happens. And then they come back saying that Morocco was just not their cup of mint tea.
Don't do that. Morocco is a wonderful place to explore if you do a little preparation in advance and get some guidance.
This FREE 3 day city guide will help you narrow down all the wonderful things there are to do and see and make sure you're not missing out on memorable experiences during your time in Marrakesh.
This guide includes
👉 Detailed outlines of what you should do each of the 3 days
👉 10 tour suggestions
👉 3 hammam recommendations
👉 10 hotel recommendations
👉 11 restaurant recommendations

I've always loved hotels. This is why I ended up studying hospitality at Les Roches International School of Hotel Management and working for Starwood, Kempinski and Mandarin Oriental.
I've been a Portugal specialist since 2019 and have lived in Lisbon since 2022. This means that I've had the opportunity to stay in and inspect some wonderful properties over the years.
Here I'm sharing a collection of some of my favorite hotels.

Welcome to the Atlantic side ! Portugal is located in the south of France, next to Spain, and on the contrary is open to the Atlantic ocean and not the Mediterranean sea! The beaches are still beautiful, and cities like Porto or Lisbon have the advantage of being "inside" the country. They both have an inside sea, for city trips, but also a part located at the ocean for more "beachy" holidays. Then again, the most beautiful beaches would be in the south, in the Algarve region :)
