For example, some restaurants are worth the splurge. . .others aren't. Some hikes are overcrowded, but can be timed right and must not be missed. Others should be skipped altogether. Follow my insider tips and tricks to have the best Sedona vacation possible.

For the past couple of years, Sarah, my best friend from college, and I have planned a girls trip in the winter months. It's one of my favorite weekends of the year. This year's trip was to Sedona, Arizona over the first weekend in March! 

Unfortunately, we got a little unlucky with the weather as it snowed 8 inches the night before we flew. They typically only get a couple of inches all winter so unfortunately, it meant it was too wet to hike most of the area. 

But we didn't let a little snow hold us back! We still tried a few hikes and explored the area. Here's everything we did over three days in Sedona. Everything in this guide has been tried and vetted by yours truly!

Girls Weekend in Sedona, AZ

Arizona is a breathtaking state with a lot to see. Here is what we managed to squeeze in, in just a short 48 hour visit. We drove from Phoenix to the Grand Canyon with a couple of stops along the way! We enjoyed as much hiking and site seeing as we could.

7 days driving around the picturesque state of Arizona? Yes please! This itinerary will take you to three National Parks (Saguaro, Petrified and Grand Canyon) as well as Antelope Canyon, and Horseshoe bend. The accommodations for this trip are as luxury for each area as we found and include at least one top food spot in each location also. The trip is aimed at a balance of outdoors and luxury. We wanted to be pampered after so much hiking and outdoor activities! 

Because we road tripped we chose to bring our cooler. We stopped at some local grocery stores and picked up snacks for the road and light meal options. We didn't eat out 3 meals each day and sometimes we just wanted to be spontaneous and ask our tour guide where to eat next. 

The trip is roughly 7 days but you can stay longer or shorter in each place if you choose.

Epic Road Trip From Phoenix AZ

Escape the hustle and bustle of Phoenix and head north about 2 hours to Sedona, AZ. Known for the gorgeous red rocks and great hiking, it is the perfect spot for a quick weekend getaway.

It is highly recommended to visit in the early spring or fall to avoid the heat midday. I've visited in both May and January, each experience being totally different but, still enjoyable. If you visit in the winter months, plan to see snow (yes it snows in Arizona). 

A Weekend in Sedona, Arizona

Chapel of the Holy Cross

Whether your interest is sacred or simple curiosity, this tiny but architecturally special chapel is a must. Built into the red rocks on an outcropping, it provides inspiration, introspection, and incomparable views. Completed in 1956.

This church was so cool to visit and walk around. It was definitely the busiest spot we went to and was difficult to find parking. 

One of the most unique chapels! Carved into the rock. Take a moment to explore and get your photos!

Parking lot closes at 5, your car will get stuck if you leave it here.
