"Swimming at Ammoudi Bay was on the top of our must do list while in Santorini and it definitely lived up to the hype! The water was perfect, the views of the surrounding red cliffs were on point, and the backdrop of Santorini just made everything amazing.
Here’s everything you need to know before visiting:
🚨Getting There: Reaching Ammoudi Bay is a bit difficult if you are walking. The path down is steep and felt a little scary. You can drive down but there is very limited parking. We were going to take a taxi back up but it was expensive and most of the time they weren’t available! So, just be prepared for the difficult walk back up!
🚨Swimming Spot: You’ll have to walk down a very rocky path to get to the main swimming area. I would definitely suggest wearing runners instead of sandals to prevent injury. There’s no beach at this swim area just a slab of concrete or surroundings rocks to put your things. The water is absolutely beautiful and it’s such a fun area to take a dip! There’s even cliffs you can jump off of into the water! "

"n the glory days of Oia, Amoudi served as a transhipment port, and the buildings located here served as warehouses. Amoudi, like the rest of Oia, suffered greatly from the earthquake in July 1956. In the 70s of the 20th century, the Greek Tourist Organization began rebuilding the buildings located here and built a promenade running along the bay of Amoudi up to the islet of Agios Nikolaos Peramataris (about 800 meters long).
In the Amoudi Bay you can admire the interesting red volcanic rocks built from ignimbrit. Ignimbrite is an igneous rock, formed as a result of a volcanic eruption and the falling out of pyroclastic materials (pieces of rock in solid form). They get bonded together with hot, liquid volcanic ash. It is a highly porous, sedimentary and acid rock. Another name for ignimbrite is hardened tuff."

"Hay dos vías para llegar: puedes bajar caminando por las escaleras directamente desde Oia o el carro por la vía principal. Si vienes en carro llega temprano porque el estacionamiento es limitado. "
