What people say

"The University of al-Qarawiyyin, also written Al-Karaouine or Al Quaraouiyine, is a university located in Fez, Morocco. Founded as a mosque by Fatima al-Fihri in 857–859, it subsequently became one of the leading spiritual and educational centers of the Islamic Golden Age. The original building founded by Fatima al-Fihri is the mosque itself. It has undergone many renovations and expansions over the centuries, but it retains its core features of a large hypostyle hall, a courtyard with a fountain, and a minaret. The Al-Qarawiyyin Library is one of the oldest libraries in the world, dating back to the 12th century. It houses a vast collection of manuscripts and books on a wide range of subjects, including Islamic law, theology, history, and science. The library is a serene and beautiful space, with intricate stuccowork, cedar ceilings, and colorful tilework. "
"Founded in the 9th century by Fatima al-Fihri, a wealthy woman from Tunisia, the mosque is renowned for its stunning architecture. It has served as a center of religious and intellectual life in Fès for centuries, with a prestigious university attached to it that attracts students from around the world. "
"Founded by a woman Fatima-al-Fihiri in 857-59, it is the oldest university in the world. Really worth exploring!"
