What people say

" Valahnúkamöl, also spelled Valahnúkamól in Icelandic, isn't your typical beach. Located on the dramatic southwestern tip of the Reykjanes Peninsula, it's a 420-meter long stretch of smooth, rounded stones instead of sand. These stones, shaped by powerful ocean currents and storms over time, range from 30 to 90 centimeters in diameter, creating a unique and otherworldly landscape. Standing at the Valahnúkamöl overlook offers breathtaking views of the rugged coastline and the vast Atlantic Ocean. The adjacent cliffs, once home to the original Reykjanes lighthouse, are currently closed to the public for safety reasons (as of March 2024). However, you can still hike up for panoramic views of the area from designated trails. Birdwatchers will be delighted by the abundant birdlife that calls Valahnúkamöl home."

"A lesser known destination for explorers, this cluster of seaside cliffs impressively hang over the Atlantic Ocean with a beautiful lighthouse sparkling on a hill right behind it. Here is a statue of the Great Auk, which was unfortunately wipe out by Icelands earlier ancestors. One of the cliffs is also in danger of falling into the ocean which is marked by tape to not enter, although we saw people walking on top of the precarious situation. This is a great place to visit when you get right off the plane or if you have some time to kill before going home. Great views, ocean, lighthouse, and a geyser. A lot of Iceland's greatest landscapes piled into one stop."
