In terms of wildlife, Sri Lanka is a biodiversity hotspot with several national parks and reserves. It has the highest leopard density in the world, so if you're lucky you'll spot one (pun intended)! It's also famous for its large population of Asian elephants, which yes, you can sometimes casually see in places like Arugam Bay and driving through Yala National Park (more on that later!)

Pidurangala

Pidurangala's Rock lies right in fron of Sigiriya Lion's Rock, so you get to see the Rock from a good perspective. 

To reach to Pidurangala's Rock you'll have to take a hike of around 30-40 minutes, it's not difficult but you might get lost at some point, as the path can be confusing. 

Overall, a good viewpoint and place to visit. 

This hike will end with the picture perfect viewpoint of Lions Rock. You can explore all around this giant rock and enjoy the panoramic views. But be careful of the monkeys!! They stole my purse when I wasn't looking and it was a headache in a half trying to get it all back. 

best for sunrise :) entry is 1000 to get in to get a great view of Sigiriya Rock!
