"The Jardins de Menara, also known as the Menara Gardens, is a historical park and orchard located west of the center of Marrakech, Morocco, relatively close to the foothills of the High Atlas Mountains. It is one of the oldest gardens in the Islamic West, believed to have been founded around 1130 by the Almoravid Caliph Ali ibn Yusuf. The gardens are named after the 17th century pavilion (menzeh) with a green pyramidal roof located in the center of the gardens. The main feature of the Menara Gardens is the large rectangular pool, which is about 30 meters wide and 180 meters long. The pool is filled with water from an underground irrigation system, known as a khattara, which is over 700 years old and extends for about 30 kilometers, bringing water from the Atlas Mountains. "

"A serene oasis located just a few kilometers outside the city center. Dating back to the 12th century, these gardens were originally built as an orchard for the Almohad rulers, but have since been expanded and renovated over the centuries."
