What people say

"This temple serves an important role in Korean Buddhism by acting as the head temple of the Jogye order. Jogyesa Temple's Dharma hall represents the main venue for several Buddhist events, holding ceremonies, rituals, lectures and other events yearly. The annual Lantern festival that celebrates Buddha's birthday is one of the most well known events and is the time when you can see all the lanterns lit up at this place. The main sights of the temple are the 3 gigantic buddha statues and the 10-story high stupa. When to visit? Visit one of Seoul's most historic temples that dates back to the 14th century. If you're in Seoul for Buddha's birthday, this temple holds a lantern festival which is worth checking out at night! It's free to visit and when you go at night there's barely anyone there! "
"A prominent Buddhist temple known for its vibrant and colorful lantern festivals that celebrate Buddhist traditions. It serves as the chief temple of the Jogye Order, one of the largest Buddhist sects in Korea, and is a serene oasis amidst the bustling urban landscape, attracting visitors and practitioners seeking spiritual solace."
"The temple hosts a number of festivals throughout the year. In spring a canopy of colourful lanterns appears in honour of Buddhaโ€™s birthday, whilst in autumn the grounds are filled with beautiful sculptures made from Chrysanthemum flowers. "

Mentioned in these guides

Seoul quickly became my favorite city! There are so many things to do, from visiting the palaces to sipping coffee in the prettiest cafes Iโ€™ve ever seen, stroll around the parks or hike the mountains for wow views! I did months of research and created this guide with 100+ locations for myself to explore Seoul and now Iโ€™m sharing it with you! ๐Ÿ˜ This Map guide includes: โ€Œ-Best places to see ( palaces, villages, buildings, libraries, museums, temples and gates, parks and hikes, cherry blossom spots & more) -Where to eat ( places I tried myself, cafes & street food markets) โ€Œ-Shopping areas The best part? When you tap into each location you will find a Naver map link (google maps doesnโ€™t work in Korea, so you will need to download Naver Map but most of the locations are in Korean) so you can easily get directions. I did all the hard work and searched for the locations on Naver Map, so you donโ€™t have to. You will also find a travel guide with some useful informations at the end of the guide. EVERYTHING IN ONE PLACE๐Ÿคฏ This Map guide DOESNโ€™T cover: -nightlife -stays NB. This is NOT a PDF but an interactive guide, donโ€™t forget to download Thatch free app to get easier access.
