Cafe Slavia
What people say
Dream Prague
"Cafe Slavia has been the symbol of Czech cafes since the First Republic (the Czech era associated with the foundation of the independent Czechoslovakian Republic in 1918). Easily the most famous Czech cafe for gathering intellectuals, poets, actors, and other artists.
📍 Location
It dominates with a beautiful view over Prague Castle, the National Theatre, and Charles Bridge. You will find it right across from the National Theatre.
👌 Extra
The cafe was first opened in 1863 and has immediately become the traditional meeting place for artists, intellectuals, and writers. Some of the most famous personas who wined and dined here were Franz Kafka, Rainer Maria Rilke, Jaroslav Seifert -- the only Czech to win the Nobel Prize for literature, and the world-famous composers Bedřich Smetana and Antonín Dvořák. The former Czechoslovak president Václav Havel (also a wonderful writer) would congregate here as well.
The interior Art Deco style of the cafe is highlighted by a large set of windows which allows for a beautiful view over the city. The building hosts a restaurant as well which offers mainly a Czech traditional menu with international cuisine as well, offering delicious meals, desserts, and drinks.
We highly recommend you make a stop here if only to soak up the history and the atmosphere of the place.
