"In 1607, this is the area where English colonialists first landed, which is why it is called First Landing! Whether you are looking to explore bald cypress swamps, lagoons or the maritime forest, this park is for you and your dog! The park has about 20 miles of trails for you and your dog to explore, along with the lovely beach that is right on the Chesapeake Bay. My dog and I loved going for hikes with friends on the trails along Broad Bay, which you will see in some of the photos above. If you want to escape the busy beaches, then you will love relaxing on the small beaches along Broad Bay. The water is shallow and fairly calm, which is great for swimming with your dog. During certain times of year, you can even go crabbing (catch crabs), without a license. Be sure to look up all of the rules and regulations related to crabbing! If you are staying in or close to the park, you may be able to walk right to the trails rather than driving! Otherwise, there are some places that you can park on the street near the North End Beaches and then walk a few minutes to get onto the Cape Henry Trail. Parking fees November-March weekdays: $7 Weekends & April-Octover: $10 Keep in mind that this park is close by to Fort Story, an active US military base and you should not cross into any restricted areas that border the park.
