"The incredible dome of Berlin’s cathedral – ‘The Berliner Dom’, is one of the main landmarks of the Berlin skyline. This beautifully designed church, including Italian High Renaissance and Baroque influences is a must see when visiting. Unfortunately, the Hohenzollern crypt was not accessible due to restorations when I visited but is said to reopen once the refurbishment is complete so I would recommend checking online as the crypt holds a vast array of ornate and fascinating sarcophagi! In the main hall, I was still able to see the large gold coated coffins of Frederick I, King of Prussia and his first wife Sophia Charlotte. These lavish death cases of German royalty feature a selection of extraordinary details including a mourning woman, skulls, cherubs, birds and a robed figure similar to the grim reaper. Also, during my visit, I was lucky enough to experience one of the Church’s outstanding choirs performing, which created a hair-raising atmosphere, whilst admiring the magnificent architecture of the building. "
"Breathtakingly gorgeous- both the church and the views. Even on the dreary, foggy day that I visted, the panorama from the dome was incredible. Located near many of the popular museums, this cathedral is absolutely worth a visit. Price: 10 EUR for adults, 7.50 EUR reduced (students, severely disabled, pass holders, etc.; a full list is available on the site). How to get there: The Museumsinsel stop on the U5 is a 5-minute walk from the cathedral. From Alexanderplatz, board the train in the direction of Berlin Hbf."

"One of the most beautiful churches in Berlin with a lavish decorated interior and exterior. If you fancy a nice view around the surrounding city center, then you can climb to the roof of the cathedral."

This is a simple, flexible, 3-day itinerary for a budget traveler. It also includes a list of places to stay, both hostels and hotels, that are affordable but high-quality. Make sure to check the detailed descriptions for each place. Also, be sure to read all hostel/hotel descriptions to make sure you book exactly what you're looking for! This guide is organized as having at least one thing from each of the following categories for each day: culture/history/art, outdoors, & food/drink/nightlife. For museums, I try to include about how long to plan. This guide is organized by day, but not necessarily time. The activities included in each day should fill your time but not leave you feeling rushed. Feel free to mix the order of things as it works for you. Please be aware that a few of these places overlap with my paid guide "Art, Culture, History: A Collection of Must-Dos in Berlin". However, some of my favorite spots didn't fit in this itinerary but they are available there. Therefore, if you'd like to buy that guide for some extra ideas, enjoy 15% off with code BERLIN15!
