Our Favorite FREE Campsites in the American Southwest

Las Vegas is so much more than the gambling and glamour on the Strip. I've shared my favorite Las Vegas spots across my other guides and socials, but let's get started with some of the best day trips and weekenders from Sin City. 

This loop in particular can be done as a long day trip or as a more casual weekender. This loop begins with the Extraterrestrial Highway, runs through a small town called Tonopah, Nevada, and circles back via the Art Highway.

There are tons of spots to check out and camp in Death Valley.  

With campgrounds scattered throughout the park, visitors can choose from a variety of options ranging from developed sites with basic amenities to more backcountry camping opportunities. 

Furnace Creek Campground, the park's largest campground, provides convenient access to popular attractions like Badwater Basin and Zabriskie Point. Sunset and Texas Springs campgrounds offer stunning views of the surrounding mountains and desert terrain. 

Additionally, backcountry camping permits allow adventurous campers to explore remote areas of the park, immersing themselves in its rugged beauty under the vast desert sky.
