"Located on the western tip of Madeira Island, the Ponta do Pargo Lighthouse Viewpoint offers a panoramic viewpoint over the Atlantic and the rock formations that dot the surrounding area. It is a unique location that is well worth a visit.
This observatory is located at Ponta da Vigia, the westernmost cape on the island. It stands on top of a cliff 290 metres high, allowing you to see the surrounding coastline, punctuated by the imposing cliffs, and points of interest such as the Achadas da Cruz site, which belongs to the municipality of Porto Moniz.
As its name suggests, the location of the Ponta do Pargo Lighthouse Viewpoint is marked by the presence of a historic lighthouse. This infrastructure, which dominates the top of the cliff, began operating in June 1922. The tower is 14 metres high and the focus is 312 metres above sea level. It has been classified by the Regional Government as a Heritage of Local Value.
