"✏️This is one of the oldest monasteries in Austria, dating from the 7th century. Its catacombs are spectacular, being carved into the fortress mountain, but those did not serve from the beginning as burial sites, but as Christian meeting places. 🕘Opening hours: ▪️Catacombs: May-September: Daily 10:00-12:30, 13:00-18:00 October-April: Daily 10:00-12:30, 13:00-17:00 (last admission 20 minutes before closing) Closed: 1 Jan, 24-26 Dec, 31 Dec ▪️Abbey Church of St. Peter: Daily 8 am-noon and 2:30 pm-8 pm (the visits are not recommended during the mass) ▪️St. Peter Cemetery: April-September 6:30-20:00 October-March 6:30-18:00 💲Prices: ▪️Catacombs: Adults € 2.00 Children/youths (6-18 years) € 1.50 "

"Not only is St Peter’s Abbey itself free to enter and an interesting place to have a mooch about in, the graveyard that accompanies it is the oldest graveyard in Salzburg and it feels kinda creepy. Many of the graves are overgrown with moss and weather beaten, so they’re hard to read, but head down into the catacombs and you’ll really get a sense of the dead here. Located at the grave of Mozart’s sister, Namnnerl, most people miss this, meaning you could have them to yourself."
