"While the Recoleta Cemetery gets all the shine and attention, Chacarita is actually much bigger (the biggest in Argentina). There are several streets and side rows to wander in and out of. The main street down the center of the cemetery is lined with huge trees providing shade.

There is even a mausoleum for those connected to the Boca Jr's futbol team.
This cemetery was created in a time of need during a yellow fever outbreak in the city. The Recoleta cemetery did not want to accept the bodies of those dying from yellow fever, so students from a local university created the beginning of the Chacarita cemetery.
Unfortunately this cemetery is not quite as taken care of as Recoleta, so a lot of the mausoleums have fallen into disrepair. Windows are broken, and you can look down into the tombs to see coffins.
Make sure to find the tomb for Carlos Gardel, Argentina's master of tango. His tomb is covered with messages from fans.
It's definitely worth a visit. If you happen to go on a weekend, you'll find some markets in the neighboring parks."
