"Fishing! Mid-April through Mid-October. When the Discover Center is open (check their hours below), you can give them your license to hold as collateral, and they'll give you a fishing rod (or two or three, depending on how many kids you have) and bait. They'll give you instructions so if you've never fished before, this is a good intro. It's catch-and-release, so don't think you're going to catch your lunch. Note that if you're 16 or older, you must have a valid New York State fishing license. This activity is really meant for kids. There's no casting - you just drop it into the water while standing at the edge. In the off season, the Dana Discovery Center is a nice place to escape the weather and learn a little bit about the Park's history."

"Floating Christmas Trees on the Harlem Meer... yes! If this were at the bottom of Central Park it would be a mob scene. Because it's at the northern tip, it gets much less attention. It is out of the way of all the Midtown activities, so see if you can fit this in if you find yourself in the Harlem area during your trip."
"One day only! On Wednesday October 30, you'll be able to watch jack-o'-laterns float by in Central Park at sunset."
