What people say

"This traditional-French restaurant holds a specific place in the heart of all the poets and writers of several generations. It used to hold poetry nights, with important French poets such as Paul Fort (prince of Poets) and Blaise Cendrars. In the 1920s, you could meet the most important American exiles here, for it was one of the favorite restaurant of the Lost Generation. It is where Hemingway finished his first novel, The Sun also Rises, where Fitzgerald gave him The Great Gatsby to read, and where the Americans artists of Montparnasse used to spend long nights talking. The architecture of the place has changed a bit, for the terrace is now enclosed (it use to be open on the place, nearby the statue) "

"A historic cafe and brasserie on Boulevard du Montparnasse, La Closerie des Lilas is known for its elegant atmosphere, grand decor and rich literary history. It was a frequent meeting place for poets like Guillaume Apollinaire and Charles Verlaine, Samuel Beckett, F Scott Fitzgerald, Oscar Wilde and Ernst Hemingway were also usuals at the cafe. The restaurant is fairly upmarket, the food is delicious and you are likely to see a celebrity or two in surrounding tables. Be sure to book in advance to get a table."
