"Conosciuto come il Daibutsu, il grande Buddha è il simbolo di Kamakura ed è una statua di bronzo di Amida Buddha.Con i suoi 11,3 metri d’altezza, è la seconda statua del Buddha più alta del Giappone, superata solo dalla statua del tempio di Todaiji, a Nara.
La statua è stata fusa nel 1252, per un totale di oltre 100 tonnellate di bronzo e posta originalmente all’interno di un tempio, il quale, fu distrutto ripetutamente durante il XIV e XV secolo e dal 1495 la statua è rimasta all’aperto.
How to get there: reachable on foot from Hasedera Temple (550m-8min). Train stop: Hase.
