What people say

"Treasury by day 📷 Your guide will help you with that perfect family snap. Explore this space because on your return it will be very busy. Once you have seen enough it is time to head onwards. 🗾 There are locals who will try and get you to the viewpointt to look down on Petra here. We advise to skip this entirely if you have smaller kids. But you also want to see the rest of Petra before the crowds arrive. If you do want to get to the viewpoint, this is something best left for the return journey. If you are not seeing the rest of Petra though, by all means once you are finished with exploring from the ground head on up. If you have a guide, they will not go up with you. Treasury by night ❗️It is a 2km walk each way to the Treasury. ❗️Wear good shoes and take a torch if walking with young kids. The path is lit by lanterns and while not challenging, it is still dark and uneven. ❗️While the show is worth the trip, we do not recommend taking younger kids and tweens. Let them get an early night and save their energy for seeing it all by day. ❗️Arrive early to nab a spot on the mats while you sip on a sweet tea ❗️You can leave before the end if you want to beat the crowds back."
"The highlight of Petra. The Nabateans' magnum opus. There are a lot of things we could call the Treasury. I'm going to say it is the most intricate façade in Petra and an absolute masterpiece. The Treasury was a name given quite later in the history of Petra. Its actual use was unknown, although the best guess we have is a tomb for a major Nabatean king. Regardless, we do know that the site was built around the 1st century CE, and that the site was purposely built as the first façade one could see in the city of Petra. The Nabateans' wanted the first building in their capital to be one that left lasting impressions of wealth and sophistication on traders visiting. And boy did they succeed. While you cannot go in the Treasury anymore, there are lots of amazing photo ops from in front of the façade. Even locals will let you take a picture with or on a camel in front of the façade. Just be careful in the surroundings; as this is Petra's biggest site, it also attracts the people looking to leech off of visitors."
"We recommend entering at 06.00, both because you will find very few people and therefore take better photographs and because of the temperature... the temperature tends to rise a lot around 10.00. entering at 6.00 you will have finished visiting the site around 11.30 - 12.00 depends on how far you managed to walk... the site is very large especially if you decide to climb the 900 steps to get to the monastery"
