What people say

"The "Dimitrie Brândză" Botanical Garden of the University of Bucharest, which bears its current name since 1994, is located in the Cotroceni district of Bucharest, Romania. It is composed of an outdoor exhibition divided into 12 sectors, two greenhouses and a museum, next to which there are administrative buildings and a building of the Faculty of Biology of the University of Bucharest. It covers an area of 18.2 ha (of which 17.5 ha is the outdoor exhibition, 3,800 m² of greenhouses and the rest is occupied by various buildings) and has over 10,000 plant species. The garden has a herbarium that in 2022 had approximately 520,000 files. It was established in 1860 in the current garden of the Cotroceni Palace, but between 1874 and 1884 it was relocated to the gardens of the Suțu Palace and then moved to its current location. The current arrangement was designed in the 1930s, during the period when it was under the administration of Bucharest City Hall. The garden suffered destruction in each world war, with Allied bombing in April 1944 destroying a good part of the collections. After the Second World War the garden was completed with new greenhouses and a new building of the Botanical Institute."
