"This is the neighborhood I personally choose when i have a car. If you´re opting for public transportation i would avoid it. There are plenty of options and you can find good prices in airbnbs. There are also many dining options, bars, and cafes. (mid- budget) It's quite popular but not as bustling as the downtown area during high season, and you'll find better prices than in the hotel zone. It's full of cafes and restaurants. Keep in mind that the streets are all torn up and full of potholes due to many constructions, so make sure to check the reviews of your accommodation to see if people mention noise. One good thing about La Veleta is that it's easier to find parking spots, there are areas where you can find a lot of peace, and it's very close to some cenotes that I'll mention later on. "
