La Brea Tar Pits and Museum

This is a really cool experience, if you and your kids (if you have them) are interested in the subject matter: excavations, dinosaurs, the Ice Age and more. 

La Brea Tar Pits is open to the public daily.

Free for L.A. residents from 3-5 pm each day, otherwise it can be pretty pricey to get in ($15 per adult).

You can watch their Ice Age show at 11:30 and 1:30 for an additional $6 a person. I haven't seen it, but it looks cool! There's a real actor in an authentic-looking sabertooth tiger costume (70 lbs of it) and it has integrated robotics so that its expressions and movements are also authentic!
