"Are you ready to stretch your legs and leave the massive crowd congregating around Skógafoss behind? If your answer is a resounding yes, then it's time to head up--yes, up--the Fimmvörðuháls Trailhead. The 14.8 mile, point-to-point trail stretches from Skógafoss (the waterfall) to Thórsmörk (a green valley) in between the Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull glaciers. The first third of the hike passes 25 waterfalls. No wonder it's nicknamed Waterfall Way. The entire hike usually takes two days to complete. Besides the waterfalls, it passes massive rocks and relatively new craters. Breathtaking views are everywhere you look. You don't have to do the whole hike, though. Plan a few miles, a handful of waterfalls, or play it by ear as you see how your body is feeling. Just remember that this is an out-and-back hike. Do you still need motivation? The Fimmvörðuháls Trail is considered one of Iceland's best day hikes. Note: Keep an eye out for sheep along the way."
