"Fernando, the owner is Mexican and married to a Thai woman, selling Hong Kong Style Sponge Cakes... can you get more New York than that?
This is an epic dessert spot and a great break for coffee/tea. Their sponge cakes are fluffy and moist, they sure hit the spot ($1.25 each). I’m a sucker for the chocolate chip. Fernando recently added new cookies as well. Remember I said his wife is from Thailand? Try the Thai Iced Tea for a really sweet treat.
NOTE: You could do a head-to-head comparison. Across the street is Kam Hing, who sells sponge cakes for the same price. Their interior is more old school Chinatown, and they do have some board games. I prefer Spongies overall for flavor, but if you're feeling adventerous try both for a fun idea."
